@toddsaunders “The SaaS boom produced a few dozen billionaires and a bunch of zero sum winners.” Reality is it made many millionaires and many more prosperous than average. Coding is cheaper now. But judgement is still not evenly distributed. So expect the 80/20 rule to continue.

I heard an incredible analogy from a VC friend that I can’t stop thinking about. “The moat in software was the cost of building software. And Claude Code just mass produced a bridge.” It’s wild when you think about the impact of this. The SaaS boom produced a few dozen billionaires and a bunch of zero sum winners. But the AI SaaS era will mass produce millionaires. There will be fewer ServiceTitans hitting $5B valuations, and instead there will be 50,000 companies doing $500K-$5M each, run by 1-3 people with deep expertise and huge margins. To be clear, I believe that the total value of software goes up, and the number of companies created goes up exponentially. But the number of people who capture the value also goes up 100x. I don’t believe in the “SaaS is dying” headline, I think it’s missing the point. It’s simply that the power of SaaS is changing hands.

@CreativeDeduct @RockChartrand Some interventions are more destructive than others. Some just wind back the clock on what people take home after all the burdens on employers and direct taxes on workers. Other interventions (like getting rid of prices) interfere with market function and destroy incentives.

The reason "mixed economies" work is that capitalism is more powerful than socialism is destructive.

@rayaddisonlive The project is exploiting every gift given by society against it. Whether it’s public space to walk in or saving people from drowning or starvation. It’s all open to exploitation by bad actors. And, ultimately, we will either close the loopholes or succumb to this cancer.

The cost to replace the Interstate Bridge between Washington and Oregon increased ~ 140% from a 2022 estimate of $6 billion to a new "target" of $14.4 billion. How much of this cost is not related to actual construction and is instead fees of consultants and lawyers?

Guys, SF is a magical city. Today, a beautiful Wednesday, I had a 4:30pm meeting with a friend at a café… it was closed. We walked 10 blocks, every café was closed. Finally found Blue Bottle, it closed at 5:30. Can some YC company please build what SF people actually want?

AI data centers can use up to five million gallons of water each day. Am I the only one concerned about how this could pose a serious threat to our farmers and our food supply? What happens when these centers seriously strain our aquifers and dry up irrigation systems? Is it really worth it?
