U.S. Ambassador to the EU
Freedom of expression is a cornerstone of every true democracy and a vital element of our shared cultural identity. As @realDonaldTrump has made clear - the Trump Administration will vigorously advocate for policies that protect and promote freedom of expression and oppose with equal vigor efforts to unduly restrict this fundamental freedom - @State Dept’s actions yesterday affirm that commitment. Ironically, the US companies that are suffering from the EU’s oppressive and anti-free expression policies, fines and regulatory overreach are the very companies that can bring the EU into the rapidly expanding AI economy. These American companies are best positioned to make the investments, build the data centers, provide the cloud access, employ the sophisticated programming and software at the levels necessary to make the EU a meaningful AI economy participant. They are already in the EU, investing, creating jobs providing these services at the levels no other companies can. They are willing to do more and more is required, but not at the risk of crippling fines and and prosperity killing regulatory overreach that censures free speech and hobbles economic growth.
Secretary Marco Rubio@SecRubio

For far too long, ideologues in Europe have led organized efforts to coerce American platforms to punish American viewpoints they oppose. The Trump Administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship. Today, @StateDept will take steps to bar leading figures of the global censorship-industrial complex from entering the United States. We stand ready and willing to expand this list if others do not reverse course.

OPINION: WHY EUROPE’S REGULATORY STRANGLEHOLD IS KILLING INNOVATION Europe used to run the world on ideas. Now it runs on forms, in triplicate. Look at Tesla’s Full Self-Driving. In America, it’s already safer than the average human driver, proven over billions of miles. In Europe, you can spend 15,000 for the same hardware and find the software legally handcuffed. Every lane change, parking maneuver, or speed adjustment requires a manual tap because a 1970s rule written for primitive cruise control still reigns supreme under UNECE and EU law. Elon has called the process “insanely painful,” which is putting it mildly. Tesla has already driven over a million supervised kilometers across seventeen countries to prove what it proved in California years ago. Best case, partial highway autonomy comes by September. True freedom? Maybe 2028, maybe never. AI faces the same chokehold. The EU AI Act sounds responsible until you read what it demands: endless audits, transparency filings, and compliance costs that can swallow forty percent of a small company’s budget. Google can absorb that. The next Einstein working out of a Prague apartment cannot. More than thirty founders, including Mistral AI’s CEO, have pleaded for a pause, calling the law “fragmented, unpredictable, and innovation-killing.” Then came the €120 million fine against X under the Digital Services Act. Brussels says it enforces transparency rules around ads and data access. In Washington, Senator Ted Cruz call it something else: a foreign government punishing an American company for refusing to conform: “The European Commission’s $140 million fine on X is an abomination. It’s an attack on a great American job creator and it’s an attack on the free speech of every American. Trump should impose sanctions until this travesty is reversed.” Europe gave the world the printing press, the jet engine, and the rocket. Today it’s perfecting the art of regulating itself into a museum. The fix isn’t complex: trust real-world data over theoretical fears, replace thousand-page checklists with performance standards, and stop punishing the bold. Let builders build. If Europe can’t rediscover the courage that once defined it, the next century of innovation won’t be written in Brussels, Berlin, or Paris. It will be written somewhere that still believes that some risk is the price of greatness. Video: @MikeBenzCyber
Elon Musk@elonmusk

The “EU” imposed this crazy fine not just on @X, but also on me personally, which is even more insane! Therefore, it would seem appropriate to apply our response not just to the EU, but also to the individuals who took this action against me.

Holy. Shit. Trump’s National Security Strategy questions Europe’s future as reliable allies: "Their economic decline is eclipsed only by the real and stark prospect of civilizational erasure. If present trends continue, the continent will be unrecognizable in 20 years."

🚨TWITTER FILES – FRANCE At this moment, the Trump administration is negotiating with the EU over final obstacles to a trade deal, one of which is European censorship of US social media platforms. Many analysts believe the massive size of the EU will lead US social media firms to impose European censorship, including on Americans. Last year, the EU’s then-top digital censor, Thierry Breton, threatened action against Elon Musk after he announced a conversation on X with Donald Trump. Now, new TWITTER FILES show a coordinated effort by France’s President Emmanuel Macron, legislators, and state-affiliated NGOs working together to force the world’s most influential social media platform to censor users for legal speech and influence Twitter’s worldwide “content moderation” for narrative control. What’s more, TWITTER FILES - FRANCE reveals the birth of the censorship-by-NGO proxy strategy at the heart of the Censorship Industrial Complex: — President Macron personally reached out to then-CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey; — The timing of Macron’s action strongly suggests coordination with NGOs on a pressure campaign to win more censorship and demand sensitive user data from Twitter; — The pattern of events indicates potentially illegal activity by various actors. The TWITTER FILES FRANCE investigation was led by @McmahonPascal and @battleforeurope, and edited by @galexybrane and @shellenberger. We are releasing the Files here on X and simultaneously publishing a comprehensive report by Clerótte and Fazi on France’s invention of the Censorship Industrial Complex.

🤯@SenTedCruz lays out HOW the TRUMP ACCOUNT Investments will work: "Take a little girl born next year—the accounts open, $1k is automatically seeded, her parents, her family, her employer puts $5,000 each year. Assuming growth of S&P 500, which is 7% a year, by the time that little girl is 18, she will have $170,000 in that account. If she keeps saving, by the time that little girl is 35, she will have $700,000 in that account. That is GAME-CHANGING & we're not talking the children of Michael and Susan, the children of Donald Trump, the children the people of great success. We're talking the kids of a single mom waiting tables who could have $700,000 saved by the time she is 35. That changes lives." INCREDIBLE.
