Colorado politicians are smoking methamphetamine for even thinking an OS-based age verification system could work. If it's local on someones machine it will be damn near impossible to prevent tampering. Beyond the difficulty of forcing it on something like Linux, nerds have historically shown to be incredibly persistent and grumpy when forced to do something they don't like. For example, I purchased these goofy little toy things for my baby boy called a "Tonies". I was surprised to find there was a "Tonies" hacker community. Basically, any sort of thing nerds don't like, some small niche community pops up to bonk it with a stick. If in the event an OS-level age verification system appeared, I wholeheartedly believe every nerd on the planet would unite to fight it, tamper with it, break it, reverse engineer it, and make politicians lives miserable. In summary, it's a "nice idea" for politicians, but it would invoke weaponized autism on an international scale.

Massive "I'm out" is not, and when you realize that massive I'm out means you are now making less money than before, heads will roll. Bean counters always win in business.

@Twitch_Bowersox @nft_finley @Stallion83 I literally said the same thing in a different way. Don't take my options away and give me poop for more money I already don't want to spend. I was happy with XBL Golds 5$/month for access. Gamespass was neat when it launched. That all changed when the fire nation attacked.

It's Microsoft after all. But maybe we can push to have what we want in the price they want without the extras crap.

@Stallion83 So we have: - $6 a month EA Play - $8 a month Ubisoft+ Classics - $12 a month Fortnight Crew So...$26 a month not including GamePass...So we are only really paying Microsoft $4 a month for the benefits of GamePass. Numbers people, we have to look at the numbers before reacting

@comtar @jyraya94 @G27Status I'm so glad I saw the writing on the wall for Xbox. I traded my XSX in for $420.69 to GameStop during the crazy promotion and got a Switch 2 and haven't looked back. I'll take advantage of Gamepass Ultimate with my gaming PC until it expires in Oct of 2027.

I'm basically out of words for Xbox at this point. With two hardware price hikes in a single year, a failed attempt at $80 games, going multi-plat, and now a major Game Pass price bump, they've eliminated quite literally every competitive advantage or bit of appeal they had.

@JayViperTV @Xbox I ended up canceling too after mulling it over. It was a nice to have, but I thought hey if I'm willing to spend 30/month for that why dont I just dump that into tech gadgets instead. They'll be more entertaining anyways. 3 months and thats a new NAS drive.

@RuneSphinx @Xbox I thought about downgrading but seeing as that price went up and is nearly what I pay now, I said, "absolutely not. Canceled."

Now that the site isn't crashing I can properly cancel my overpriced @xbox Game Pass. Doubling the price over 2 years is insane.

@TrueTrueCore @JezCorden LOL premuium. I downgraded to essentials and am eying cancelling. They broke the value prop entirely. Its just not really worth it at this point.

@JezCorden If only about 20% stay with Ultimate and 80% downgrade to Premium, it's a plus for MS. Some will cancel entirely, but I guess if 30-40% keep Ultimate (and that's very likely), they'll make more money than before. Unfortunately it's unlikely the pressure will be high enough.

@BigTimePlayah @JezCorden Nah, been here over 20 years (since 2005 xbox360). Was an Xbox ambassador. Sorry, the value just isn't there anymore, especially with PC gaming as accessible as it is nowdays. Time to leave xbox, xboxlive, etc behind and just buy my games and not pay for connectivity.

@JezCorden For those that will still pay for Xbox game pass subscription even though the price hike I can respect that. This is basically a test to see who would stick around with Xbox no matter what happens, some wouldn’t which is understandable.

@TheCorkenstein @JezCorden I don't play nearly enought to make it worth it anymore. I kept it as occasionally friends would pick games up and try them because of games pass. With this change, my guess is a lot less games will get played and we will stick to steam sales more.

@JezCorden Everyone is going to spend money where they find value in spending it. I think most are upset they have to spend more despite the value they are still getting in Game Pass. $30 for day 1 games is still a good value when every AAA studio is moving to $80+ for new AAA releases
