@g__j Let’s cut the red tape. Utilise to optimise …. in this instance. Whereas minimise to optimise in demand.

You can’t run an efficient renewables-heavy, distributed energy system without price signals to match supply & demand, drive investment to the right places Wind & solar are v cheap- but not if we have to pay them to switch off, or build an unnecessary & unfeasible amount of grid
Edwin Hayward@edwinhayward

This is wild. Wind farms in Scotland were paid to suspend generation at the same time as gas plants in the south of England were paid to turn generation on. Our electricity market model is so, so broken. No wonder we have the highest prices in the world.

@kenbone44 Thanks for sharing. I wonder if there’s much difference in carbon emissions in this strategy e.g grid carbon peak/ good COP vs grid carbon off peak/ less good COP.

@EsTresidder The cost of panels is very low currently that I think even at smart export guarantee tariffs (4.5p/kWh) they could pay for themselves in about 12-15years 🤞. Much of prelims (scaffold etc) already covered. I’ll let you know how I get on…..when I can afford it also😅

@RupertDaly Yeah agree wider decarb good motivator but at this stage I need to make sure it pays for itself in 💰 too, to justify taking the interest free loan for money we no longer have. 🤣

Looking at quotes for solar PV and battery. We've got a good SSE facing roof, no shading, but our electricity use is so low (4,000 kWh/y I'd estimate, but hard to know as only been back in the house 5 months) that I'm not sure it'll stack up financially.

And so it starts… the path to electrification and decarbonising has just got a hell of alot harder.

@55n @WeAreSussed @HolmesMiller @MaxiConstruct ‘We’re going to need a smaller fan’… great to support this project through the site phase as part of @WeAreSussed. Awesome result is equivalent to a 10% reduction in residual space heating demand - equivalent to 100mm less insulation to all walls! I.e. Quality can reduce costs!

Airtightness testing recently at the Sciennes project we're working on under the @WeAreSussed banner. Designed by @HolmesMiller and built by @MaxiConstruct Excellent results!!!!
Maxi Construction@MaxiConstruct

#Passivhaus standard of 0.6 ACH (Air Changes per Hour) has been bettered on our D&B classroom building at Sciennes Primary School with final air test results of 0.17 ACH occupied conditions (MVHR systems operating) & 0.28 ACH night-time conditions (MHVR systems off) @Edinburgh_CC

SVP airtightness done. Fiddly cos so close to batten but managed to get some Vana wiggled in there first and pressed down with a blade before finishing off with spare Extoseal.

Where are global emissions heading and where should they be going to keep #globalwarming well below 2C and 1.5C? Today, @UNEP released the 2022 #emissionsgap report. A look at the key messages but caution, not much good news ahead 🧵/1

@JurajMikurcik I wonder when we lost our confidence in colour? Could it be that natural has moral overtones? Perhaps what Bachelor calls ‘Chromaphobia’ is a consequence of ideas migrating north? Interesting.

@AndrewMcQuarrie The reduced amount of concrete makes it more eco friendly but in this form it does work more expensive an Isoquick slab for example. Worked well on site though as we had a nice level platform to build the walls on.

We were in Herefordshire last week erecting a #passivhaus timber frame where we also supplied the ground floor sitting on a pre installed pile a steel support. Having not supplied insulated ground floors before, this is the first of 4 jobs current job’s requiring them, new trend?

@thermalimageguy What a waste of time, money, material and energy!. The current ‘outcomes based funding model’ should hopefully mitigate this for future schools. I wonder if there could be a similar mechanism for retrofitting this one. 🤔

Gaffer tape holding the air tight layer together - that’s it. Now dried out and no longer effective, (if it ever was) - 2 years after this £9m school in central Scotland was built. Scotland’s shame, no adequate inspection. Nobody cares. I’ve messaged various green & snp….
