Today, in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at the Chief Minister’s official residence, Varsha, between the Maharashtra Maritime Board and Norway-based maritime technology company Hyke AS for the Mumbai Water Metro Project.
A Detailed Project Report (DPR) for implementing the Water Metro Project for passenger water transport in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) has been prepared through Kochi Metro Rail Ltd.. The DPR proposes the upgradation of 24 terminals across the existing 21 waterways currently being used for passenger transport, along with the construction of 21 terminals on 10 new waterways proposed to be introduced.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed confidence that the Mumbai Water Metro Project would usher in a new era of modern water transport in the country. He stated that the state government is committed to developing a sustainable and environmentally friendly water transport system to meet the growing transportation needs of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
