What a journey. Since the @CadreRE sale, I’ve been reflecting—not just on the highs & hard lessons, but on the people who made it all possible. From my family in Louisiana to my Cadre family world-wide, I have learned that No one builds anything worthwhile alone. I recently discussed my journey on the @mastersofscale podcast. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/mas… Thank you to my family, the Cadre team, and every mentor, investor & partner who lifted me up—from the late-night cleaning crews to friends and partners like @jaredkushner , @JoshuaKushner , @mcuban , @darrenwalker, @vkhosla, @aplusk and so many more! I wouldn’t be here without your support and I can’t wait to share more about what I’m building next as I continue to focus on breaking barriers & opening doors while creating access where it's needed most.

Two years ago, Ryan Williams sold his commercial real estate fintech startup Cadre for more than $300 million. His new venture uses AI to solve thorny problems in how private credit firms track their investments. Learn more: forbes.com/sites/jeffkauf… (Photo: Noam Galai via Getty Images for TechCrunch)

Congratulations! I first learned about Cadre from your conversation with @wallstreetpaper on Harlem Capital podcast. Excited to see what you’re building at @ellis_company, and even more excited to follow the journey from this early stage.

At @Cadre, I saw the gap firsthand. Large “institutional” firms built their own systems. But everyone else had to deliver with fewer resources, spreadsheets and manual work. forbes.com/sites/jeffkauf… “Institutional” should describe a standard, not a budget. That conviction became @ellis_company @JeffKauflin, @Forbes Ryan Williams’ Next Act After Cadre: A Fintech Fix For Private Credit’s Data Mess

We backed Ryan when he built Cadre. We're backing him again with @ellis_company, solving the reason institutional has always meant expensive. Private credit became a multi-trillion dollar asset class in about a decade while the operating stack underneath it barely moved. That gap is the opportunity. Ellis is an AI-native operating platform for private credit, with agents that absorb the operational work rather than asking teams to work differently to get value from software. The lesson extends beyond private credit. Sectors that resist software usually do not have a product problem, they have an adoption problem.

Harlem Capital is proud to back Ryan Williams and the Ellis team as they come out of stealth. Private credit is a multi-trillion-dollar market still running on fragmented data and shadow spreadsheets, and Ryan built Ellis to close that gap, bringing institutional-grade systems to managers who never had access to them before. Conviction like his, paired with a market this overdue for real infrastructure, is exactly what we look for. Congratulations to Ryan and the whole Ellis team. All Winners Welcome.

Excited to partner with @RyanAWms and the Ellis team as they create the AI-native operating platform for private credit. I've known Ryan for over a decade. Thirteen years ago, I worked with his now-wife, and over the years I watched him build Cadre from the sidelines. It's pretty special to now have the opportunity to partner with him on his next chapter. Ryan spoke at our Annual Meeting in 2025, before we had invested. As I interviewed him, I remember thinking, if he starts another company, I want to be part of it. Over the following months, we had dinners, exchanged ideas, and watched the vision evolve. Those conversations ultimately led to our partnership. This investment was a reminder that venture capital is a long game. The best investments often don't begin with a pitch deck. They begin with years of building relationships, earning trust, and creating value for one another before there's ever an opportunity to work together. When all of that comes together at the right moment, it's incredibly rewarding. Looking forward to building alongside Ryan and the Ellis team.

Really excited for a lot more people to see what @RyanAWms and team are building @ellis_company

Almost two years ago @RyanAWms joined @firstround’s PMF Method. He'd just left his first company (@CadreRE, the real estate investment platform he scaled to $6.5B+ in AUM before selling to @Yieldstreet) and was pressure testing ideas for his next one. He kept coming back to a problem he'd ran into head-first as a fund manager: basic portfolio questions were strangely hard to answer. “What’s our net IRR to our top 10 LPs?” took weeks of hunting across spreadsheets and disconnected systems instead of just a couple of clicks. He wasn't alone in making hundred million-dollar+ investment decisions based on stale data in Excel. Today he and his team are launching @ellis_company , the AI-native operations platform that solves this problem for private credit. They’ve built a unified data layer that connects every system, along with AI agents that take the first pass on all the workflows teams have had to run manually, from reconciliation to waterfalls. It was a privilege to lead Ellis’ $10M seed round and get to work with Ryan from the very beginning as everything was still taking shape. I've recently been heads-down on something I couldn't talk about. Today I can: I left a $9B company to help build @ellis - the system of record for private credit. A $2 trillion industry that still runs on spreadsheets. Why I made the jump, tomorrow. Today it's Ryan's 👇

When hiring executives, @travisk prioritizes one skill above all others: the ability to solve hard problems. "There's two things you want an executive to do. You want them to be able to organize, manage, and lead at scale. You also want them to be epic and strategic problem solvers... the best executives are the ones that are doing both well." "I have come to the conclusion over my years, that problem solving is the most important thing. If you get somebody who organizes and manages well but cannot solve a problem, they're going to be doing ridiculous stuff in a super organized way. The only constraint on your imagination is management capacity. But what is management capacity? It's really problem solving at scale."
