The Nicene Creed was formalized at the Council of Nicaea in AD 325 and refined at Constantinople in 381. It was written to define orthodoxy against heresy, not to be recited mindlessly. Every line was hammered out in theological controversy.

@BasedDavePA How can Papal supremacy be correct if the 6th ecumenical council declared a pope anathema for his heresy? Under Catholic teaching that should be impossible for a pope to be in grave error of teaching the faith.

The reason why I'm at a crossroad with choosing between Catholicism and Orthodoxy comes down to this: Which side has the better historical connection to the Church Jesus founded in 33 AD? Which side is objectively closer to the early followers of Christ and what they believed.

@Virgini23166650 @BasedDavePA All bishops are heirs to the Apostles, and Rome doesn’t have an exclusive claim to Peter. The Patriarchates of both Antioch and Alexandria are both also Petrine Sees. None of the 7 ecumenical councils note a distinct supremacy of Rome over the other Patriarchates

@johnamonaco The only valid baptism is an Orthodox baptism. The practice of accepting heterodox via Chrismation binds a prior heterodox baptism to be valid, not that it was originally valid. Both entering via Chrismation or "re" baptism are both fully valid and all EO churches accept this.

> born in traditional Roman Catholic home in New England > entered seminary at 17 > became a reactionary liberal in response to institutionalized NOrmie conservative Catholicism > realized that progressive Catholicism was inextricably tied to banal liturgy and moral confusion > “Lex orandi, lex credendi”; re-embraced the TLM > realized I didn’t have to choose between Catholic social teaching and traditional liturgy, became trad > left seminary in 2016 to pursue academic path > became Orthodox inquirer after wrestling with questions of papal infallibility & jurisdiction, messy history of the Church > realized that in the early Church, papal primacy carried with it *actual* jurisdictional authority (not just “primacy of honor”) > realized that in the Eastern Orthodox world, there is no consensus as to what constitutes a valid baptism; some jurisdictions rebaptize Catholics, others just receive via Chrismation; realized that the concept of “economy” was used to mask major ecclesiological issues > realized that Eastern Orthodox teaching on contraception and divorce & remarriage was a capitulation to then-Imperial pressure and was less about the Gospel’s call to asceticism and theosis > realized the importance of being in communion with Rome as a mark of full catholicity > officially became Eastern Catholic (Melkite) > happily Catholic, irenic and warm to EOs and Protestants, praying they enter full communion with Christ’s Holy and Catholic Church

@DohMkay Being chronically online is how a lot of us found orthodoxy ironically, that being said being chronically online is still a bad thing. I can get into comment wars sometimes, but I at least recognize it’s a problem and I need to stop.

Can Orthodox converts just stop being autistic about their faith? Get an actual hobby, go out and meet some real people. Pray your morning and evening prayers, go to church. You're not a theologian or a saint. Laypeople have no business reading canons and interpreting them or being involved in church affairs, interpreting scriptures and early church fathers. Im so tired of Internet Orthodoxy. It only exists online, its not real. Turn off your phone or computer and see how much this discourse actually matters in your life, in other people's life. It is all in your head, its not real.

@AlecRayme @Nick_The_Hat @needGod_net Remembrance is Greek is different then remembrance in English. Remembrance in Greek is almost to transcend time and to come to the actual moment, not a mental recalling like in English.

@sw3etkcals @lexercise_ Isn’t that whataboutism though? Saying food companies can benefit from wellness trends doesn’t negate the original claim that food companies benefit from the body positivity movement.

@mad_man18967534 @reddit_lies The Bible is explicitly clear about the innocence of children. Christ even says unless we become like children we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.

“Every veteran is taking advantage of this broken system.” Let me know the last time someone shot at you, tried to blow you up, or you almost suffocated during sleep. Let me take you to just one target on a dark night, just one not hundreds. Let me watch you run to the MWR tent to call your wife because your gut says, this may be the last call, because you have been up for 26 hours and got an emergency exfil call in the middle of the day. You want to know why we all get pissed off at the “disability is a fraud” crowd. It’s not because we don’t want the VA to be better, it’s not because we think fraud is ok. It’s because we know they’ll come for all of us. We know the VA. And these gross generalizations are disgusting.
Caleb Hull@CalebJHull

Every veteran I know is “disabled” and taking advantage of this broken system. About time we start fixing it.

Military disability fraud is not rampant. People think it’s rampant because they don’t understand the system, how it’s designed, or how it functions. It’s for sub 1% fraud rates in comp program, which are aggressively investigated and prosecuted by OIG. But idiots on the Internet love spouting off opinions on topic they know nothing about.
Erich Hartmann@erichhartmann

Military Disability fraud is rampant, but for some reason is ignored, allowed… and even encouraged. This kind of obvious cheating ruins the system for those who actually need it: heroes who served our country honorably and were injured in the process.

This is sad. I know as a politician these companies are going to spend a billion dollars against me for saying it but 🤷🏽‍♀️ Pervasive gambling is not good for society. It turns life into a casino, traps people in addiction & debt, surges domestic violence, and fosters manipulation.

@gingerine6 @Efgarnes @WomanDefiner Hard agree unless it’s connected to actual combat. If someone did actual combat, I’d be more open to it. This guy and the majority of the vets that end up on financial audit aren’t combat vets

I am begging someone, anyone to clean up the disability fraud in the VA. This guy was a Navy reservist who went to school for the Government and got out after 2 years with disability benefits for anxiety and depression. This has to end.

Look man I just go to Church. I tried the debating scene and it wasn’t for me. I even tried encouraging people to stop because it’s just creating division, and convinced nobody. So as for me, I just go to Church and that’s it.

@Joshua_Ray215 @TomHicks2LCF Everyone has the capability, never said everyone has equal positive external influences, but God is fair and judges us accordingly. Even in the US, there are more youth going to church then their parents.

@Joshua_Ray215 @TomHicks2LCF Excluding cases of severe medical issues (dementia as example), not only does everyone have the capability, every action they take is of free will. External influences, physical and spiritual, can coerce a person but the decision and actions are ultimately decided by free will
