@daveweigel Orange man evil, oyster man a colossal fuck-up who has promised to do better. Orange man wouldn't know "better" if he sucked its nipple raw.

@Fritschner Ahhh. You’re right; that’s a pretty deep cut, but on the Trump Tour of Vindictiveness, no cut is too deep.

No, I don't agree that nonconventional understandings of the nature of God are disqualifying for public office. I would think a member of a minority faith with a very distinct understanding of God, quite different from mine, would see the problem with that position.

There is no interpretation of the Bible that can support the Gospel of James Talarico God isn’t gender nonbinary Climate alarmism isn’t a biblical mandate It’s time for Republicans to unite behind Ken Paxton, who won tonight’s runoff in Texas Share if you agree

@RobGeorge “He’s being misled” is the American version of “if only the Tsar knew.” But of course as I saw Brad DeLong write many times, the Cossacks worked for the Tsar. And this Tsar like the wannabe in Moscow, isn’t in least interested in hearing contradictory opinions.

💯 BUT it is inaccurate to say Trump is being “misled.” By design, he has intentionally surrounded himself with people who will not push back against his instincts — whether on ill-considered policy or self-aggrandizement/enrichment pursuit. Either way ends in disaster for the party. But that’s where things stand.
Arc Govern@arcxGovernance

Republicans—at least those who want to be in majority or lead the party after Trump—need a Geoffrey Howe moment. Not a Never Trumper. But a Trumpist who recognizes that Trump is being mislead and is leading the GOP to electoral disaster. Otherwise, Dems win in November and 2028.

@greggnunziata @TheDemocrats The true principled critics were ostracized by their own party. I mean, who are your examples? Collins? Murk? Cassidy? They’re probably the closest and they have all sold their souls for rock’n’roll. Face it, it’s cowards, opportunists and Klansmen all the way down.

We don't talk enough about the fact that @TheDemocrats, smelling blood, targeted principled conservative critics of Trump for defeat and boosted the worst MAGA elements. And now they talk of Court packing. Do we have a democracy to save? Or is this just the right/left fight?

@DrewSav I disagree. It requires a trifecta anyway and the WI GOP was a trailblazer in ignoring norms, so if the reform is merely statutory, they’ll just change the laws. Now if you’re talking about the federal level, I’m listening…

@Fritschner Asking for many friends: how difficult is the process of adding justices to SCOVA? Are there any state constitutional hurdles to overcome given sufficient will in the lege and Spanberger’s office?

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, who is speaking at Jim Clyburn’s annual (2028-coded) fish fry this month, on the possibility of Rs nixing Clyburn’s district: “Jim Clyburn has been a generational leader for South Carolina and the Democratic Party, and I am proud to be with him later this month. If the Republicans use this terrible Supreme Court decision to move forward with a gerrymander designed to eliminate his seat, the entire House of Representatives will be worse off without his experience. It would also be an own-goal for South Carolina, who would lose someone who has used his tremendous influence to deliver for his people for decades.”
Jamie Dupree@jamiedupree

Here is the new GOP map being floated in South Carolina, which would take that state's delegation from 6-1 to 7-0 for Republicans.

@ArmandoNDK Yep it’s a milder version of the limitless oppo available on the presumptive Maine Dem Sen nominee. My belief is best get it out in the primary. I think the ‘carpetbagger’ argument is way overblown: WV is the most clannish state in the Union & keeps electing a guy from Frederick.

Rogers would hammer it whether Stevens did or not. Personally I think McMorrow is more electable than Stevens this cycle, but politics isnt tiddlywinks. Deal with the reality. If she’s good, she will find a way to deal with this. If she can’t better to know now
Stephen Robinson (Bluesky at @playtyperguy.com)@SER1897

Haley Stevens is not John Fetterman (Thank God!) but I will note that Fetterman *hammered* Oz on being a "fake" Pennsylvanian. It's also likely that Rogers would consider this a gold mine if McMorrow's the nominee.

@magi_jay Also I’m sure that the autopsy could not have been written without ignoring some of the elephants 😂 in the room. These pachyderms in large part relate to the common clay of the new West and their attitude towards their current sheriff.

The document is most certainly as useless as all post-2024 analyses were useless, particularly now that we have real electoral data. Nobody was even thinking about it until these Democratic-pain parasites decided to try to reignite it.
The Monkey, or The Plywood Violin?@DrCsC51

@magi_jay My suspicion is they aren't releasing the autopsy bc it would cause yet another pointless shit-throwing contest between the progressive wing and the "wants to win" wing. (Probably the conclusion favors "wants to win," which would cause more conspiracy theories about evil DNC)

My colleague, Carrie Dann, on the catch-22 for R’s in swing CDs. Their voters want MAGA-style candidates; indies don’t. In fact, indies would pick a progressive-aligned Dem over a MAGA-coded GOPer. From the @CookPolitical Battleground Survey. cookpolitical.com/analysis/surve…

@tbonier @RinainDC Nope you don’t have to be strategic per state. When the national GOP has taken enough hits, maybe then there can be a national law but I’m not holding my breath. Until then the bar fight continues.

So many of us campaigned far too hard in 2020 for an independent redistricting commission set-up via constitutional amendment. Setting a precedent for the commission to be overridden & for any party to get “temporary” changes is very bad. That’s why “No” made most sense today.
Patrick Ruffini@PatrickRuffini

4 of the 7 wealthiest counties in the U.S. are in Northern Virginia. This measure is a power play by the Rich Men North of Richmond that transfers political power from the people who need it most to the people who need it least. Vote No.

@DrewSav Did those party switches happen early in the term? Though I checked outta politics for a few months after the election, I remember a fair bit of wailing and gnashing of teeth about the supposed long-term realignment.

Despite the usual political headwinds of a midterm four Democratic legislators have become Republicans under Trump term two. Cochran is the only one to switch into the superminority though. All others joined the majority party.

Almost certain career-ending party switch in the Hawaii House. State Rep. Elle Cochran (Maui) is a Democrat-turned-Republican and represents a Harris +16 seat (she ran behind Harris's margin by 3 pts). The switch is due to her frustrations with the DEM House Caucus
