Strengthening Amritsar–UK Air Connectivity @flyamritsar Initiative, @avm_ngo along with @SEVATrustUK welcomes the official updates shared by Sri Guru Ram Dass Ji International Airport, Amritsar (ATQ) @aaiasrairport and the UK High Commission in Chandigarh @UKinChandigarh regarding the meeting held on 8 January 2026 at Amritsar Airport with Ms. Alba Smeriglio, Deputy High Commissioner @UKinIndia to Chandigarh The meeting, attended by the Amritsar Airport Director Sh. Bhupendra Singh, @AAI_Official Airports Authority of India officials, and airlines including Air India @airindia, focused on: • Passenger experience enhancement • Increasing frequency on existing Amritsar–London Gatwick @Gatwick_Airport & Birmingham @bhx_official flights. • Exploring the possibility of adding London Heathrow, a high-demand route. Such constructive dialogue is encouraging and reflects growing recognition of Amritsar’s importance in India–UK connectivity, particularly for the Punjabi and Sikh diaspora. 📌 Current challenge remains: At present, only Air India operates direct flights between Amritsar and the UK, leading to limited seat availability and higher fares compared to London–Delhi routes. For nearly a decade, FlyAmritsar Initiative, Amritsar Vikas Manch along with Seva Trust UK and others including diaspora stakeholders, has been consistently advocating for: • Additional frequencies • Entry of UK-based carriers • Direct connectivity to London (LHR) @HeathrowAirport & Manchester • Competitive pricing and passenger choice 🙏 Our respectful appeal: We request the UK High Commission to actively engage with airlines including @airindia @IndiGo6E @britishairways @VirginAtlantic, to help translate these discussions into real route additions and increased competition from Amritsar. Direct Flights Between #Amritsar & #London (Gatwick) are BACK! 🇬🇧 After a gap of nearly five months, the direct Air India @airindia service connecting Amritsar (ATQ) @aaiasrairport and London Gatwick (LGW) has successfully resumed, operating three times a week. This is a crucial revival for the Holy City and the Punjabi diaspora in the UK! The FlyAmritsar Initiative is immensely proud, having campaigned hard since 2017-2018 along with many others including @avm_ngo @SEVATrustUK and many other leaders for the commencement and sustainment of this vital route. We believe this flight restores passenger travel and opens up crucial cargo export opportunities for Punjab's businesses and farmers.
