Would it not make more sense just to charge every car in the UK 1p per mile? This would then not stop people from moving over to EVs, it would bring in more money and would not complicate the hybrid lower cost issue by treating all cars the same. They could also lower the cost of fuel duty by 3 or 4p per litre which would help sell the idea. This would also help balance the fact that diesel and petrol cars do not pay for the pollution they create.

Rachel Reeves is asked about how the 3p a mile electric vehicle charge will work for new cars, when they don't have to have an MOT for 3 years. So who will monitor the mileage in order to calculate the tax owed during that period? Reeves doesn't know.

Thank you to everybody who has written to their MP pushing them to sign our cross-party letter opposing Digital ID - a proper team effort. There's already talk of the scheme failing due to mounting opposition. We must keep pushing. Now is the time. Write to your MP, tag your MP - tell them that you are not happy. They work for you. As ludicrous as that sounds... As I said, I will do everything in my power to fight these plans in Parliament. Digital ID is dangerous, intrusive and deeply un-British. I will work with anyone in Westminster to fight it. I call on all MPs to put aside any political differences, sign the letter and let's show Starmer that he won't get Digital ID through Parliament without an almighty fight.

I’m for liberty and freedom not authoritarian compulsory Digital ID & I’m very glad to join @RupertLowe10 in signing this letter to the PM. I encourage all my colleagues to do the same. Digital ID will do absolutely nothing to protect 🇬🇧 borders, nor will it stop illegal working. It’s a total [and probably hugely expensive] distraction by a Govt. adrift a sea. Rather than the good folk of Britain having to pay the price of ongoing failure with their freedom, perhaps, instead, the @ukhomeoffice could just pull its finger out and start properly monitoring and enforcing visa compliance. If you’re working here illegally, then you should leave or be deported. That shouldn’t be controversial. The Govt. has all the data it needs to do this already (despite telling me repeatedly it’s too costly to pull it together to answer my written Parliamentary questions). They just can’t be bothered or don’t want to do the hard work needed to use the data properly, track people down, and show them the door. And assigning us all a Digital ID won’t change that one bit. @NoToDigitalID

@LNallalingham that says more about how income hasn’t kept up with inflation over 30 years, more people abusing the system. To pay more in than you take out you need a salary between 30-40k. As a whole our tax system is broken and theres too many loopholes for rich people to not pay their share

All he offers is hate, and too often violence, and there is no place for any of that in this region. I look around our region and see a North East that is proud and welcoming. This is a place where families have come from all over the world to work in our hospitals and care homes. They are our friends, our neighbours, people who we play or watch football with and have a laugh with at work or on a night out, people who have built up businesses, employing others and who work hard and contribute a great deal. If his group comes here to launch a new political party on Saturday, we make clear we see them for what they are. We won’t be fooled by Tommy Robinson. He simply does not belong here.
