👁 Why trusting CTR sabotages channel growth. ### Advanced lesson based on real data ### Or why CTR is not a reliable metric to base decisions upon. -> Lets say one of your videos has a CTR of 3.5%. Because you know that the average CTR for your channel is 5.9% and the highest for your videos is 9%, you think that 3.5% is "bad". And you stress out, ask people what they think, brainstorm a new packaging or blame the algorithm.

I never knew why my videos flopped. So I built something to find out. TubeAI tracks every video I publish, breaks down where viewers dropped off and tells me exactly what to fix. Watch how it works.

⚠️IMPORTANT READ: If YouTube doesn’t solve its AI problem quickly, we won’t have many human creators left. (+ research insights) If you’re wondering why it feels like you’re seeing more AI content, and why human creators seem to be disappearing, here are the numbers from a real study by Goldberg and Lam. They analyzed what happened to the stock image market after generative AI was introduced. I’ve added an image showing what the data looked like month by month. Every single month after AI entered the market, 1 in 4 creators exited because the economics stopped working for them. Now, it wasn’t bad for everyone. Total consumption on the platform went up by 39% per month. But sales of human-made content dropped every month. The platform won. The buyers won. The human creators… didn’t. Think about what that would look like on YouTube. AI can already generate scripts, voiceovers, thumbnails, talking-head videos, and entire channels at a fraction of the cost and time it takes a human creator to produce a single video. The algorithm doesn’t care whether a video was made by a person who spent three days filming and editing or by a system that generated it in 20 minutes. This isn’t about being anti-AI. AI helps a lot of creators improve their output. But it is about protecting the type of content people actually want to watch. And I’m not just talking about removing AI slop. I’m talking about making sure human-driven channels are protected and prioritized over AI-driven content. The stock image market already ran the experiment that YouTube hasn’t fully felt yet. Don't ignore that. Here’s my ask to one person: @nealmohan I know you’ve seen some of my work (algorithm, platform changes, etc). I respect what you’re doing for the platform, but this is your moment to stand for human creators. It’s time to put public effort into protecting them. Not just AI labeling or low-lift solutions, they don't solve the problem in a meaningful way. No, we need a genuine, real, and public effort to preserve what YouTube was built on. You’re one of the few people in a position to set a precedent for every platform. Let’s talk. For those interested in the actual research, check out Samuel G. Goldberg and H. Tai Lam's paper called "Generative AI In Equilibrium: Evidence From A Creative Goods Marketplace"

Dear Youtube Please Roll back your demonetization policy for "over commercial" content Your platform is nothing but ADS and selling products making it very commercial yet you demonetize creators for "commercial content" This is the pot calling the kettle black and frankly this policy is nonsense. Do you know how many creators like me use Blender to make logo's and content you attack DO BETTER!! Also, can you actually respond to me? You tend to ignore me and it feels on purpose at this point

78% of viewers say YouTube has the most trusted creators for product recommendations. That’s why, at the YouTube NewFront, we introduced YouTube Creator Partnerships — the newest evolution of what most creators know as BrandConnect. Brands will be able to use this centralized platform powered by Gemini to find and partner with @youtubecreators.

@MarioJoos No problem, I love the questions. And actually, our solution is dead simple. We only do podcasts from creators we know are putting real content out there. That’s it. I believe curation is the new creation. We can’t compete with YT on volume, so we compete on quality.

Contrarian take, but… I think that YouTube viewers are skilled at knowing whether a video feels good or bad to them… And usually quite bad at knowing how precisely to achieve that. ‘In The Blink Of An Eye’, a classic book on editing, talks about exactly this. It tells an anecdote where test audiences hated one particular section of a movie. But, the screenwriters figured out that it wasn’t actually that section of the movie that was bad. It was a section way beforehand that was needed to give it context. So if your audiences dislike your channel, there’s a problem there that requires deeper thought, and an even better understanding of viewers than they are able to articulate. For myself as a doctor, I appreciate the patients’ self-diagnoses, but it will never override what I think is actually going on, based on all the evidence available for that patient. Otherwise, there would be no need for doctors.

750k subscribers and broke. Because she never got past Level 1. Most creators don't know there are 4 levels of monetisation on YouTube. Level 1 - AdSense. You post, YouTube pays you per thousand views. This is where everyone starts. Where most people stay. Level 2 - Brand deals. Companies pay you to talk about their product. Only take deals you actually believe in. Short term money from ripping off your audience costs you long term trust. Level 3 - Patreon or your own product. Your audience pays you directly out of choice or for a course to help them. This is the most sustainable income a creator can build. Level 4 - Equity. You stop taking cash for ads and start taking ownership. If a company wants your audience, you want 2% of their business. Your influence is a currency. Use it to buy equity in companies. Amy built 750k subscribers and monetised like a beginner. Don't make the same mistake.
GOAT@GOATiology

She’s broke with a 750k subscriber channel. She fell for the scam and now she’s stressed, and full of regret. A lot of YouTubers are not building real businesses . They are building prisons with thumbnails. She spent 6 years doing what everyone tells creators to do: just keep increasing quality, grow subscribers, build the brand, trust that the money will come later. Now she’s realizing the audience she built can’t support the life she wants, sponsors don’t value the demo enough, and the “success” everyone applauds doesn’t actually pay like success. That’s the scam. A big branded channel can make you look like you’ve won while quietly making you miserable and financially stuck. Subscribers are not a business. “High quality content bro” is not a business. Luckily she’s woken up and has decided to leave the 750k channel that every one was telling her to keep desperately holding on to. Now she’s actually building a business that will support her and her husband. Unfortunately, she doesn’t know about YTA which would get her out of her rut in less than 30 days. Don’t fall for the scam.

This is awfully true and it can be seen in other domains : health influencers tell you to eat x y z, it doesn't work for you, and then real doctors have to fix your diet. Success teaches nothing, only failure does.

I’ll preface this with, no shade to either creator - they are both very successful. HOWEVER, there are many such cases of huge creators who have been very successful with one thing, or saw success when YouTube was very different. And will then preach exactly what worked for them, or the patterns that they have personally seen as gospel. When realistically, for 99.9% of normal creators, who don’t have huge brands, or didn’t hit the right format at the right time, those same patterns won’t apply. But because they have huge followings, their fans will see it, then tell their friends, and that’s how misinformation happens. They’ve only seen one channel, or one group of channels. But they’ll talk as if they’ve seen every channel on earth. And the advice or opinions they give can be extremely harmful to up and coming creators, because it’s either inaccurate or doesn’t apply to 99% of creators. The best advice you’ll get is from creators who have been in multiple niches, have a track record of adapting, OR a seasoned strategist who has worked in many niches and has been able to find relevant patterns across many different niches. There are MANY channels under 10,000 subscribers who likely know a lot more about YouTube optimisation than the big mainstream channels.

Jamais aucune cause ideologique a defendre

A/B testing packaging (if that is what you mean) has already been properly solved. What remains undone is as you mentioned predicting the number of views - which should not require "comparison", just training on enough data. That multi modal model would be so powerful it would be able to generate any video asset from a prompt. Input script output packaging etc. The number of views would be just one of the metric type of asset.

@ryanhashemi_ @CreatorML_ Glad to hear from you Ryan! “Solve” is having a reliable, measurable, repeatable statistical edge at outperforming random guessing if one video idea/packaging/content will do better than another. Even better is outperforming the best human at choosing. Happy to jam more. :)

Claude does good with scripts. But when it comes to video titles, it just can't generate me JUICY enough titles. All come out as boring no matter how many references you put. ChatGPT does a better job when it comes to titles. Is it true? Or just a skill issue of mine?

@sethfowIer @Ideated_ai (seeing other replies) I don't know how you could improve the Rentention Lab, for me 90% is already there. The next level is not reviewing but writing or rewriting a script. Same for editing. The big question is do we want to have or to make banger videos.
