Pune River Revival
Pune River Revival@PuneRivers·
While this first-ever academic valuation of Vetal Tekdi demolishes the PMC's economic argument for destroying nature's gift to Pune, even the most well-meaning environmental valuation is thinking like a builder! Here's why it is still a gross undervaluation of a priceless asset : 1. A 65-million-year-old ecosystem cannot be rebuilt. Destruction is irreversible. Irreversibility has infinite cost. 2. The forest cools entire neighbourhoods. Every home, hospital and school that avoids an air conditioner owes something to Vetal Tekdi. 3. It filters the air for millions of lungs every single day. No number was put on a single breath. 4. It holds Pune's floods back. The stormwater it absorbs silently saves the city infrastructure costs every monsoon. 5. The genetic and medicinal wealth of its plant species — part of a global biodiversity hotspot — was left entirely unvalued. 6. The mental health of a city cannot be itemised. But it can be destroyed, permanently, by a road. 7. Future generations were not consulted. Their share of this inheritance is not in the table. 8. Ancient aquifers recharge on geological timescales. Once broken, they do not come back in any human lifetime. 9. The existence of wild, living, breathing nature inside a city of 7 million is itself a gift beyond accounting. 10. Some assets belong on no balance sheet — because they are the condition under which all other value is possible. #SaveVetalTekdi #ScrapBBRoad

This points to a reactive enforcement culture where action follows public pressure instead of routine monitoring and prevention. #PMC #MPCB & #Builder must explain why legally mandated dust-control measures are visible only after complaints. Clean air should not depend on who shouts the loudest. Enforcement must begin before citizens are forced to complain @PMCPune @mpcb_official

This half road at Kakdenagar Road, Opp. Swami Vivekanand Garden, Kondhwa budruk was dug for making a road more than a month ago. There is absolutely no work going on since more than a month and causing traffic jams on the accessible road. Make this road ASAP. @PMCPune @MDNagpure

@rajuparulekar @PenguinIndia Grow a spine @PenguinIndia . Not only have you done disservice to the nation by holding onto the book, but now will pressurise citizens into not sharing whatever format they have the truth available in? It might not be easy, but publishing the book is important and your duty

Dear @PenguinIndia , You are not selling Tomatoes, Potatoes or Groceries. Being a publisher you are selling and propagating the TRUTH, bringing home the Ideas, Dreams, Inspirations to your readers. The Nation knows you maybe under tremendous pressure and you are not the only one. But by giving in so sheepishly, to enable the enforcement agencies to act against Rahul Gandhi, LOP, India, to intimidate the public from sharing the pdf files on WhatsApp, for compromising and not standing for the Truth, for not TELLING THE REASONS FOR NON-PUBLICATION OF the book since more than two years, you have LOST THE MORAL RIGHT to publish any Memoir, except ofcourse HAGIOGRAPHIES of Modi and Company. Hope you make mends sooner for better lest you risk being called ‘Godi Publisher.’

Breaking news: #MulaMutha river has officially been upgraded into a photoshoot location. Hard hats on, ribbon ready, sapling in hand. Smile for the camera. The river can wait. Concrete floodplains? Check.
Restricted visiting hours for a river? Innovative.
Ecology, hydrology, sewage, flood behaviour? Sorry, not visible in the frame. This “riverfront” seems designed less for monsoons and more for inauguration albums. The river is now a background prop while officials perform tree plantation rituals that last longer than the trees themselves. A living river needs space, seasonal flooding, soft edges and humility.
What it got instead is steps, tracks, theme parks and carefully choreographed inspections. You can’t restore a river with press photos.
You can’t climate-proof a city with angles and lighting. Pune doesn’t need a riverfront that looks good on X.
It needs rivers that survive July. #PuneRFD #UrbanRivers #ConcreteSolutions #PhotoOpGovernance

Legends!!!
sushma date@sushmadate

The unsung heroes of #BajajPuneGrandTour ❤️ An army of stray dog feeders and rescuers from all over Pune and PCMC worked with PMC, ably assisted by 2 NGOS, Blue Cross Society and @CCC_Pune, to prevent untoward incidents due to stray dogs crossing the route. The volunteers accompanied the dog catching vans to make sure strict records were kept, dogs were caught as humanely as possible, and sent only to trusted shelters like Blue Cross Hospital It was gratifying to see people offering to confine dogs in their premises during the event - tapri owners, security staff of colleges, shopkeepers, the irrigation dept on Karve rd, and big hearted people who allowed us to keep dogs in their basements, terraces and garden. Thanks to these kind souls, only a small number of dogs were sent to the shelter, and only 2 from Deccan. I myself had 5 dogs jailed in my backyard till the cyclists crossed the Deccan roads.😀 Though I still feel that removing stray dogs during public events and VIP visits is an unnecessary trauma to animals who are already living precarious lives on the streets, our volunteer-PMC-NGO collaboration model shows that a humane, well coordinated effort is possible that keeps animals and humans safe at public events

Protests are important. They give citizens a platform while amplifying their voice to ensure that they are heard. But, when one has to protest for even the most basic facilities, it brings into question the efficiency of the administration in place

The Hon'ble Supreme Court sets a precedent. Orders PMC to conduct a fresh Environment Impact Assessment and get an EC for the #BalbharatiRd on #Vetaltekdi. It is gratifying that the highest court has recognised the importance of Pune's pristine Vetal Tekdi 💚

A precedent setting decision by the Supreme Court at a time when most road projects have used the loophole in the EIA notification to escape from the requirement of carrying out EIA studies @sushmadate barandbench.com/news/litigatio…

#Vetaltekdi is under constant threat. It's viewed as valuable real estate to be 'developed' by the powers that be, not as a pristine, green public space, rich in biodiversity, a vital groundwater recharge zone and a community reserve for Punekars Please tune in at 8 pm today to listen to @prajpanshikar talk about this issue. Sewage management is a basic necessity and something that should be done before people start moving into new neighbourhoods. It has to be infra first, then population growth. @OfficialPMRDA @PMCPune and @mpcb_official are passing the buck, but no one is taking responsibility
Wagholi Welfare Foundation@WWFWagholi

🚨 Health Alert for Pune's Wagholi! 🚨 Today's @TOIPune news report reveals that rampant unplanned construction and inadequate sewage infrastructure have led to a public health crisis in the Baif Road area. Residents are battling stagnant, foul-smelling sewage water flooding their societies and roads, becoming a breeding ground for diseases. Local residents and we Wagholi Welfare Foundation @WWFWagholi have repeatedly raised concerns with authorities like the PMC and PMRDA, but say their complaints have fallen on deaf ears. Urgent action is needed to prevent a major health epidemic. We need proper sewage and drainage systems, and authorities need to be held accountable for giving permissions to builders without ensuring civic infrastructure.@Dev_Fadnavis @AjitPawarSpeaks @PMCPune @OfficialPMRDA A huge thanks to @Salonee_TOIPune and @TOIPune for bringing attention to this issue . #Wagholi #Pune #PuneNews #CivicIssues #PublicHealth #SewageCrisis #PMRDA #PMC #Infrastructure #WagholiAgainstCorruption

Auto correct is not my friend* While this is the reality across the city, some areas are forced to deal with inadequacy even when solutions stare them in the face. Bavdhan is one such example.
