@santanderuk it might be useful if you could teach your AI help chatbot the difference between 'payee' and 'payment' because I've just had a very frustrating exchange with it that was no help at all. Those are surely terms it should be familiar with.

@pdxraj @tomhfh Not how it works, you have liquid and gas refrigerant going back and forth from an indoor evaporator to an outdoor condenser. No exhaust in a simple domestic ac system. ( except bathroom fans that are not part of the ac)

@overlandertheb1 There are at least six open secrets in every subject or field of work. It shouldn't come as a surprise when people inside the subject have known for years before a scoop breaks. Stories like this break for many reasons, "we only just found out" is never one of them.

@rhymerrigby So many asking why it matters vs. untruths from politicians. If you have any involvement in health/bad times support groups you'll know that these are the narratives that will prompt vulnerable people to make life-changing decisions, not a politicians words. Facts matter.

Perhaps the weirdest thing about The Salt Path affair is how nobody apparently fact-checked anything (and how often this seems to happen). Nobody asked if it was true. Newspapers are far from perfect. But they fact-check stories. Why do publishers so regularly fail to do so?

@pinstripedline As part of an integrated European defence plan, would the UK be best investing in additional armoured vehicles, or getting the RN back up to capacity and fixing holes in RAF capabilities to provide logistics, backstop and reach over frontline members?

This is a significant development - Yes, the UK is an island, but in the Cold War, we maintained nearly 1000 tanks in Germany as part of 3 - 4 Armoured Divisions. Future plans to acquire 148 Challenger 3 will give just 2 regiments of armour available for the entire Army.
UK Defence Journal@UKDefJournal

Germany is considering a sweeping defence procurement plan worth up to €25 billion to acquire thousands of new armoured vehicles and battle tanks, aimed at fulfilling NATO’s force generation targets and bolstering deterrence against Russia. ukdefencejournal.org.uk/germany-consid…

@JeffSparbeck @TimInHonolulu @LoneStarChica That's the point. We changed the measure of success from "Look at the size of my business, see how many people I employ", to "Look at how much I make, look at all the toys I own".

@TimInHonolulu @LoneStarChica Except for one thing…nobody actually paid at 90%. Revenues increased AFTER the rates were dropped. Who’s going to put in the extra effort to take home 10% of what they’ve earned? Look it up

Just one lifetime ago in the United States, our grandfathers could buy a home, buy a car, have 3 to 4 children, keep their wives at home, take annual vacations, and then retire… all on one middle-class salary. What happened?

I'm posting something that I had hoped I'd never have to, and I have stayed quiet for many months Unbound - @unboundsocials - the publisher of my book, Keanu Reeves Is Not In Love With You, owes me many thousands of pounds and has behaved appallingly towards me and dozens of its other authors They went into administration, then IMMEDIATELY set up a new publisher (taking my book with them), saying they would honour what they owed the authors through payment plans After just one installment they said not only are the payment plans not viable but that we wouldn't be receiving our next royalties cheques either I understand things are tough in the industry and I have been loyal thus far, but the manner of communication and the blatant untruths along the way have become too much to bear In the meantime, having left so many of us utterly skint, they are spending money on launching new books I have asked Unbound to revert the rights to my book as I don't want it to go out of existence and for sales to simply go to them while I don't see a penny. I will be putting it out myself through Amazon and am hoping that my followers will help me with some of the associated costs and to recoup just a portion of my losses This book has helped many people identify and subsequently leave fraudulent relationships and I am damned if that's going to stop! I have reluctantly set up a GoFundMe and if you feel you can help me keep the book in circulation, then please sling a couple of quid into the horribly bare pot (For anyone who thinks what they have done is illegal, I'm afraid it's not. Lawyers and forensic accountants have been all over it and they've been very clever in what they've done. All legally above board, although ethically is a whole different story) Thank you everyone 🙏 gofund.me/9d13efc9

@Eyeswideopen69 @fred_mooney That's not how you deal with this sort of thing. You need to point out that it's Reform policy to jeopardise the future of the UK motor trade by criticising almost 20% of new vehicle sales. When it comes to UK trade and industry, who needs enemies when you've friends like Reform.

@fred_mooney Yusuf’s figures include motorised wheelchairs. And the high-end models he specifically cites are leased by the users. So yes, he is making stuff up. Now sit down, and be quiet, lest you confirm what we already know about Reform voters.

@SandraDunn1955 It's complicated though, isn't it. Based on theoretical FTE pay, or take into account that PT can be essential due to childcare costs? Should we also tax the childless more (no one to pay for future care) or less (less immediate demand on services). Not easy choices.

Just a thought 💡 If someone is employed by a BIG company (say Tesco) and still has to claim UC (that the taxpayer has to pay) couldn't/shouldn't the government claim that amount back from the companies profits?

@Mr0Mushroom @bmay @seawildearth Because it's hard to fight apathy with sensible. Centre parties get killed by low turnout and low engagement, because it's the extremes that motivate action and reaction.

@RugbyKids_ @lovebb2362 I've used 101 to get a policeman to come to the door when the local station is closed but clearly occupied. Seems ridiculous to have to ring a control room 40+ miles away.

@olibatt @pinstripedline In practice it means relying on our least reliable NATO partner to provide access to the weapons. It's hardly a credible deterrent if we're still trying to swap a cup of sugar for couple of B61s whilst enemy tanks are rolling up Piccadilly.
