This makes my day @pitdesi. We built @withautopilot because travelers deserve better, and the numbers speak for themselves. Autopilot supports flights, and now hotels with much more to come. Excited to see this category grow. We pioneered it, we love it, and we’re not slowing down.

@pitdesi do you still like and recommend Autopilot for flight savings? I remember you rec'd it - and my friend @zachware said he's been using it and likes it - was going to include in my newsletter

@ankurnagpal Expedia, Kayak and the airline/hotel programs are all throwing billions of $ at this. Problem is: the model providers will get there soon enough and wipe out all that investment.

A startup I'd love to use and invest in: AI for booking travel Give me a Whatsapp bot for booking travel that has full context on my loyalty programs, credit card and travel preferences The AI books for me, and slowly learns how I like to travel making switching costs high

Everyone dunked on the DoorDash part of the Citrini piece, but replace it with OTAs. Why would an AI agent use Expedia? It can check every airline/hotel directly. OTAs exist (& charge hotels ~15%) because comparison shopping is tedious for humans. Hotels will opt out, right?

@pitdesi They should not be allowed to call it “cash” since it’s not redeemable for real $. “Bilt Bucks” has a better ring to it

One trick credit card companies use is giving you a currency and getting you to spend it for less than it's worth. Bilt is blatant here: they claim Bilt Cash = dollars, then offer you $100 of points if you redeem $200 of cash.

@signulll They’re essentially selling the middle seat in Comfort (without flexibility) at a discount

This sounds insane, but I'm choosing to pay an extra $100K+ in taxes this year I'm going to convert ALL my pre-tax retirement dollars to Roth Here's why: 1. My retirement portfolio is down a reasonable amount (with the tech stock drawdown) making the conversion point attractive 2. Even though I'm in a high tax bracket now, I suspect I will always be in a high tax bracket and Roth accounts protect me from uncertainty around tax rates 3. I'll have access to all converted dollars after 5 years (unlikely I'll touch it though) and zero taxes on a massive Roth account at retirement age seems like a a good deal to me If I expect my portfolio to go up, each year I put off the conversion will only cost me more money

This is crazy, just over 10,000 extra @JetBlue points to fly JAL Economy -> Business on a 14-hour flight... well worth the upgrade

Really cool website I discovered today called flightqueue.com which lets you check the live arrival queue time for any airport in the world Very useful with European (and some American) airports now just becoming by default very slow when you arrive to get through immigration If anyone knows the founder, I'd love to add this data to 🎒 Nomads.com and let it affect the ranking because arriving in a place fast and smoothly is a big part of what makes it attractive to travel to (for me)

Comptroller Lander was on the side of the Municipal Building today shooting a video a staffer describes as "office-related" (I.e. not about a potential congressional run or something like that). The commentary in below video, shot by Rev. Frederick Crawford, is quite something.

@_ZachGriff @JetBlue It’s hard for DL to be competitive to the award travel community when they charge 350k in D1 TATL, and Mint can be found for 110k one way on those same routes.

.@JetBlue’s back on the Euro expansion spree. It’s adding new service from Boston to Barcelona and Milan, its first foray in Italy. Delta also flies both routes, so I’d expect some jockeying for dominance. Hopefully even some good fare sales.

@pitdesi Even crazier that they’re forcing people who are currently checked in, to vacate immediately. Typically, Marriott would treat something like this as “being walked” and help re-accommodate ppl and give comp. Instead, it’s every man for themselves. They got #Bonvoyed

Damn - that didn't last long! Marriott is terminating their relationship with Sonder. I imagine that this is probably the end for Sonder, will be hard to survive. They had "WeWork-like" exposure to high fixed lease costs and variable demand, tough business.
Sheel Mohnot tweet media

Sonder is being added to Marriott Bonvoy next year. Sonder ($SOND) has struggled as a public company (mkt cap $64M, up 125% today). It will remain independent. They announced an $146 million in additional financing (various forms). Excited to have more Marriott options!

SFO TSA isn’t actually run by the government. They’re private contractors (so they still get paid during the shutdown). Thus, almost no lines, and big smiles from the security agents here this morning.

TIL @JetBlue JFK Terminal 5 DOES have a Priority Pass lounge. Across from gate 507 is Gameway. Incl. is 1 free snack, a N.A. beverage, and an hour of gameplay. The bottle of water and snack alone saved me $15 instead of buying in the terminal.
