@flmann1611 @ScottRoberts No, the text says he didn’t consider equality with God something to be grasped. Jesus is always portrayed as subservient to his Father. Don’t you recall his saying, “The Father is greater than I?” If they were equal, he wouldn’t say that without lying.

@flmann1611 @ScottRoberts Being in the "form" of God is not the same as being God. "Form" is another word for "image." Jesus reflected his Father perfectly. He was "made" by his Father in the likeness of men. He was "sent" by his Father.

Perhaps Paul wasn't really redeemed by Jesus and could not possibly have written under the inspiration of God's spirit? Look what he wrote here in 1 Tim 4 - "But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron, who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth. For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude;  for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and prayer."

@flmann1611 @ScottRoberts Why did you ignore John 17:3 where Jesus calls his Father "the only true God?" Your stance requires you to deny the death of Christ for our sins because, as you must be aware, God cannot die.

Oh, I see. Therefore, in your view, we have at least two Gods. Maybe 3? We have the Father, who is invisible according to Paul in Colossians 1:15. Then we have Jesus, who Paul does not describe anywhere as God, or the visible God, or God the Son. Paul does describe him, however, as "the image of the invisible God" which means he represents God or is an agent of God. Jesus, himself, describes himself as "sent" by his Father. He didn't "send" himself. And, in John 17:3, Jesus said this, "And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." That would indicate that Jesus did not think himself as "the only true God." That's how he described his Father.

Ray, you should simply state up front that you don’t believe the biblical teaching on death. President Kennedy has had no consciousness since he died on Nov 22, 1963. His soul will not come back into existence until God restores his spirit in a resurrection body. You should believe Solomon who wrote about death in Ecclesiastes. 9:5 - “The dead know nothing.” 9:10 “… for there is no activity, planning, knowledge or wisdom in Sheol where you are going.” 12:7 - “… then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.” Stop teaching falsely.

Consider the President Consider the late President Kennedy. One moment he was sitting in his limo with his wife, smiling and waving to adoring crowds. The next moment he was in eternity. A small piece of fastmoving metal sent him there in a split second. Imagine you were taken back to the time just before he stepped into the limo. You can't stop the assassination, but you can talk to him for a few moments about his eternal salvation. Are you so intimidated by his status that you would remain silent? Of course not! You know what will happen to him. You look beyond the presidency into eternity. You ignore your fears and look into his eyes. You see the frailty of his humanity, and think how in an instant of time he will be blasted into death. Now think of the rest of humanity ... death will take 150,000 into eternity in the next 24 hours. There goes another minute. Gone forever. Go share your faith while you still have time.

Kay, your scholarship is sloppy and wrong. Two of your points are refuted by scripture. "Jesus is God" cannot be true. John 1:18 says that no one has seen God at any time. Jesus was seen by a plethora of people, hence he cannot be God. "Jesus is eternal" cannot be true. Paul wrote in Col 1:15 that Jesus is the "firstborn of all creation," which indicates he is part of creation. This YouTube by Wes Fahlenkamp will help you understand that Jesus is a created being, not an eternal being. youtube.com/watch?v=cwyAL3…

And anyone who denies that Jesus Christ's work on the Roman stake failed to accomplish the salvation of all preaches a false gospel. That would include you, John. You have adopted the unenviable position of declaring that God is unable or unwilling to accomplish what Paul wrote He wants in 1 Tim 2:4. You assign failure to Jesus in finishing the task he came to do, not to judge the world, but to save the world (John 12:47).

It’s really simple. God doesn’t try and fail. His desire is to provide salvation for all men. Check. His desire is to give man freedom to accept or reject that provision. Check. His desire is to save those who believe. Check. Clear enough?
Nate@1984_nate

Notice the issue here? The issue is unbiblically thinking that God desires to save man against their will. Also that man’s deadness in sin is such that we are like corpses unable to know our deadness and desire to do otherwise. None of this is Biblical.

Check other translations on v. 18 ... here is the KJV - "No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him." And from the Youngs Literal Translation - "God no one hath ever seen; the only begotten Son, who is on the bosom of the Father -- he did declare." One must check the Greek text when the word God appears in English. "Theos" which is commonly translated God, can simply mean "Placer," and Jesus, along with the Father, was rightly called Placer.
