@JadeWilliamsolo @LinkofSunshine That's fair. I agree actually. It's difficult though cause factory farmed meat is the default, at restaurants, in grocery stores, etc. So the only way to avoid factory farmed meat is to eat vegetarian/vegan in a large majority of circumstances

@Sean22996353 @LinkofSunshine The meat industry is a different beast compared to the morality of eating meat itself. The meat industry is awful and terrible, but that doesn't mean that eating meat is some inherent wrong.

i love my vegans but can they please stop acting like they are morally superior than meat eaters bc of the “industry” when the vegan industry also steals indigenous land likee 😭😭

@JackieBartender @tv5834472 @gefiltefishy @LinkofSunshine I don't get how this is a legitimate reducto ad absurdism. Maybe it really is the case we've collectively committed the greatest tragedy to ever exist. It is certainly difficult to accept, but it's not so absurd as to be impossible. (Also killing meat eaters accomplishes nothing)

@JadeWilliamsolo @LinkofSunshine Does animal welfare matter? Imagine a factory can make their pork chops 2% cheaper, but it requires them to gruesomely torture their pigs for week long stretches prior to slaughter. Is it all good for factories to implement this practice or are there moral reasons not to?

@LinkofSunshine This isn't a morality question you can't slap morality on the food chain. A fox could technically live off worms and berries if it so chose, but it is not immoral for a fox to eat a rabbit. Humans aren't some separate higher beings, we are but animals as well.

@shinywolf42 @musingsofohara This is blatantly false. The logistics involved in mass meat production cause 10x the damage than the alternative where people ate plant based diets

@musingsofohara It's meaningless action, it's the same as preferring to tie ur left shoe before ur right, the logistics involved in mass food production and distribution cause the ecological damage in the present economy whether it produces meat or plants

@Aella_Girl There is no atheist justification for none, unless you believe in God then there is an answer and if you aren't vegan it should be around pig/cow.

How mentally impaired would a human have to be before it would be ok to kill and eat them?

@arimasu598808 @reason17164257 @KlassWarfare @morallawwithin In online discussions, people will commonly justify the way they consume meat with esoteric examples that have nothing to do with how they actually consume meat. Not that you are doing this, but it's common enough that people will assume you are doing this

@johhny_mccassh @Marcolololol @Maroxad @nikicaga (2/2) in reality, if one person decides to stop eating meat, there is some small % chance, many many animals will be saved. You never know if you are that person, but you always might be, and you always contribute to the next shift over in the supply/demand curve

@johhny_mccassh @Marcolololol @Maroxad @nikicaga (1/2) let's assume for any number of meat eaters, nothing changes if one less person eats meat. If true, it necessarily follows an infinite number of people can stop eating meat and nothing will change. This is obviously false, therefore are original premise is also false

There is a reason both "Vegetarianism is white supremacy" and "100 companies do most pollution so individual efforts are useless" takes to viral all the time They absolve you of the need to do anything to maintain moral superiority

@BoiRunch @reason17164257 @mattmc_c (2/2) to clarify. Meat for the market, which I still think is very environmentally damaging even if local, is the actual purpose of these animals, and a not very justifiable end.

@BoiRunch @reason17164257 @mattmc_c Lets be honest about farmers. Sure, okay, the animals are their pseudo-family. But those animals are also the farmers product. You don't need dozens to hundreds of cows pigs and sheep to have a pseudo-family. That is a byproduct of the actual purpose of these animals

If a left wing person defends eating meat with “meat yummy” I respect their opinion way more (still barely any) than those who do woke gymnastics to justify it

@BoiRunch @reason17164257 @mattmc_c I feel really weird about pets. Not sure. If it's with the very best of intentions, and not pure breeds, etc. I lean morally defensible in maybe the same way having kids is morally defensible, even though they are environmentally disastrous. Personally I couldn't ever get one.

@BoiRunch @reason17164257 @mattmc_c I'm mixed on hunting. Some hunting, say of deer in America, is good for their health/wellbeing overall. I think it's probably fine... Anything farm raised is much more questionable

@BoiRunch @reason17164257 @mattmc_c Sorry for the sprawl of comments. Responding to them in total. Can you clarify how a local high meat diet from farmers is ethical fine? I like that they are treated well, but environmentally, they still produce too much co2 and use too much land due to their feed

@BoiRunch @reason17164257 @mattmc_c (3/3) if you eat a highly local, land respecting, environmental, omnivore diet, you probably marginally beat the worst vegan offenders? It's so difficult due to the sheer inputs required for every calorie of meat. Local, grain based, vegan diets utterly trounce both.

@StonerWrasslin @mattmc_c I looked up the numbers, its about 2000 chickens and 30 pigs. Thats a very big number. 100 is a very big number. I view it the same as dogs. The lifelong abuse and slaughter of 100 dogs is irrelevant? No right? I want my life to give more than it takes, so this is important to me

@Samtanic_Panic @bangtanb4ddies Are you defending the practice done by the indigenous tribe that makes little boys suck grown men's dick, or is this specifically referring to the whale hunting? I need to know whether you're a pedophile or not before I take your argument seriously.

@AntonChigu80801 @mattmc_c I'm not hard line, so sure, give them good lives and eat them. But we are actively breeding these animals. If you agree with my comment, and also worry about the animals going to waste, then isn't that the perfect solution?
