ME: The US has 4,542 active facilities (leading the global total by a wide margin). China has only 369. Yet China is only 6 months behind the US in AI development. In fact, China has fewer data centers than does Europe!
If data centers are so important for beating China, and we have 4,173 more data centers (and counting), how is it China is so close to beating us?
Is this really about beating China or are our so-called elites using this talking point to trick us into supporting more data centers which actually have little to do with China and much to do with maintaining their beloved surveillance state?

Ever wonder why Red Delicious showed up in the cafeteria more than any other apple? It's because USDA's bulk-purchase list for schools left out newer varieties like Cosmic Crisp. My amendment gets USDA buying the newer, better-tasting ones too. Farmers like ApplegirlKait (Kaitlyn Thornton) grow both, from Red Delicious for export to Cosmic Crisp for flavor. 🛢️ NEW: US Energy Department Says US Oil Reserve Can Run Far Lower Than the Industry Assumed
As the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve drains to its lowest level in 40 years, and confronted with Wall Street alarm over shrinking supplies, a DOE spokesperson told MarketWatch that the reserve’s true operational minimum, set by “cavern mechanics,” is roughly 70 million barrels, well under the 250 to 300 million barrels the oil industry has generally treated as the practical limit.
By that measure, officials say around 246 million barrels remain available for emergencies.
The reassurance comes as the SPR has shed more than 104 million barrels since the US and Israel attacked Iran in late February, falling 5.1 million in the week ending July 20 to 311.4 million barrels, the lowest since 1983, as Washington releases crude to offset losses in the Strait of Hormuz.

@basil_kiwan @ryangrim The goal would be to manage the sea lions and drastically reduce their numbers in the Columbia. They’re hammering the salmon runs, which is a valuable resource for the tribes, recreational anglers, etc. Managing a natural resource is the responsible thing to do.

@ryangrim Eliminating predatory species at the top of the food chain, like sea lions, causes other damage elsewhere in the ecosystem. Think about deer overpopulation stripping forests in the eastern U.S. because of the absence of wolves and cougars.

The Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 was designed to fix that, and it worked: today there are over 300,000 in the ocean. But an estimated 6,000 have now moved into the rivers, preying heavily on the salmon that have been a cultural cornerstone to this area for generations. Was confirmed by Reuters this morning that Qatari mediators have passed Iran a proposal for a 10-day ceasefire; proposal mandates they cease attacks on ships.

I'm absolutely in love with small town America. This is a place called Island Pond in Vermont. They have a population of 750 people but there was quite a lot going on. They had a flea market, a nice deli, and a beautiful lake with people out on their boats.

@sethharpesq I’ve always found one with a sighting mirror most useful when it came to shooting and taking a bearing. That’s what we learned on in forestry. That military-style one on the right never did it for me! Probably personal preference though. A GOOD compass nowadays is ungodly pricey
