I've lived on both sides of the pond so here's my take
Homeownership rates are 70-90% in Mediterranean counties. Croatia's is 91%. Spain's is 76%. Canada and America are in the 50-60% range. Auto loans in Europe require 20-30% down payment, not 0% APR with predatory rate hikes later. Croatians don't even have a credit rating (good).
I'd rather not live in a Central Bank-owned economy, thank you
Low salary + low debt + high net asset values + family inheritance + constant family social assistance + huge amount of relationships = exceptionally high quality of life
