🚇 Improving Last-Mile Connectivity Around Metro Stations The Greater Bengaluru Authority convened a roundtable in Bengaluru with mobility organisations, researchers, and civil society groups to discuss ways to improve last-mile access around metro stations. During the discussion, WRI India and Alstom shared findings from Phase 3 of the LEAP Program, which assessed 83 operational metro stations and how commuters reach them. 🔎 Key Insights: • 66% of commuters walk or cycle to metro stations • Commuters are seeking better access and convenience • Accessibility barriers often start even before the station entrance The discussion emphasized the importance of: 🚶 Walkable streets 🚦 Safer pedestrian crossings 🚉 Better integration of transport systems These measures will help create accessible, well-connected station areas and make daily metro journeys safer and more convenient for everyone. Experts from Sensing Local, Enable India, Association of People with Disability, Urban Morph, Beyond Urban, The Mobility Agenda, Bengaluru Walks, Alstom, and Purpose shared valuable insights on building well-integrated and walkable station neighbourhoods. #GreaterBengaluruAuthority #DKShivakumar #gbachiefcommissioner #MetroConnectivity #WalkableCities #UrbanMobility #LastMileConnectivity #Bengaluru #SustainableTransport 🚶🚇 @DKShivakumar @SensingLocal @GBAChiefComm

Built this out using @SensingLocal ‘s audit of Bangalore streets. sidewalkblr dot com Not all spots have data. Where we have the data, I’ve added it. Where we don’t, if everyone contributes, we can have it soon. Ps. My ui and frontedn skills are shit.
Bhaumik Gowande@bhaumikgowande

This means indian techies can develop an app for tracking walkable sidewalks??? Like where is it good, where is it bad or where there is none at all?

Bengaluru is feeling the heat - quite literally! Once known for its chill mornings and breezy evenings, the city touched 39.2°C last year - the hottest in history. So the big question now is: How do we keep #NammaBengaluru cool, safe, and liveable for all? That’s what brought together some of the city’s brightest minds - scientists, researchers, health experts, and government changemakers - at the “Inclusive Action on Heat Resilience in Bengaluru” workshop hosted by @c40cities in collaboration with the @GBA_office Bengaluru Climate Action cell and the Health Department, on October 10th at Radisson Blu Hotel, Palace Road. Dr. Vybhav G R (@artparkindia @iiscbangalore ) kicked off with fascinating insights on state-level heat mapping showing just how quickly our city’s microclimates are changing. C40 Cities followed with findings and proposed Heat High Impact Actions (HIAs) - spotlighting where Bengaluru needs to act now. Then came a powerful moment - Mrs. Preeti Gehlot, Special Commissioner (FECCM), GBA, reminded everyone that “resilience isn’t built in reports - it’s built in action.” She urged experts to come up with practical, on-ground solutions GBA can bring to life. The room came alive with ideas - cool roofs for Peenya’s factories, blue-green corridors weaving through the city, shade and hydration for street vendors and frontline workers. By the end of the session, one thing was crystal clear: Bengaluru’s fight against heat will be won through collaboration, creativity, and community. Let’s turn the city’s heat challenge into an opportunity - to build a cooler, greener, more inclusive Bengaluru together. @GBAChiefComm @pgpreeti92 @DULTBangalore @OfficialBMRCL @KarnatakaSNDMC @WRIIndia @SensingLocal @WELLLabs_org @Hasiru_Dala @SocratusW @opencity_in @CSTEP_India #HeatResilientBengaluru #NammaClimateAction #C40Cities #GBACAC #HealthDepartment #CoolCities #UrbanResilience #BlueGreenInfrastructure #ClimateActionNow #SustainableBengaluru #PublicHealthAndClimate #InclusiveClimateAction

Shaping Bengaluru’s Ward Climate Action Plans (#WCAP)! Today’s session at Samagata Foundation brought together the WCAP working group – @WRIIndia , @SensingLocal , @WELLLabs_org , @Hasiru_Dala, @SocratusW , @jan_sahas – along with our Bengaluru Climate Action Cell Fellows. Together, we dived into: 🔹 Streamlining the hashtag#WCAP process 🔹 Deciding what goes into the report 🔹 Tackling data gaps & existing datasets 🔹 Building robust frameworks 🔹 Distributing responsibilities across partners 🔹 Outlining next steps – mapping potential ward-level actions from BCAP’s city-wide strategies & identifying datasets for sector-wise interventions. It was a truly fruitful brainstorming session, setting the foundation for actionable ward-level climate planning in Bengaluru. What ward-level climate actions do you think Bengaluru needs the most? @GBA_office @GBAChiefComm @pgpreeti92 #BengaluruClimateAction #WCAP #ClimateActionNow #SustainableBengaluru #BCAP #ClimateJustice #ClimateLeadership #UrbanClimateAction #CityClimatePlan #NetZeroCities #ResilientBengaluru #ClimateCollaboration #CommunityClimateAction

Every day I see posts about why people want to leave India. India isn’t perfect, but no country is. I think before self driving cars or AI chips, we first need to improve quality of life here. Imagine if more of us built tools for public good in health & climate that make daily life better. What’s one problem you face daily that you wish had a simple solution? At Rainmatter/Zerodha we will back and build this together.

I am committing INR 1 Cr to find Bangalore Choke-Points via Google Maps & AL. 11 km → 2.15 hours in Bangalore Traffic on Saturday late night! I was stuck at one choke-point at ORR, where I spent 100 mins struggling to understand why there is no traffic-light or cop here! But I don’t want one more “Bengaluru Traffic Memes or Rant”. I WANT TO FIX IT. Very recently, in April 2025, Google Maps started sharing "Road Management Insight". It's a city-level data in Big Query format. Using Google Data and Satellite Imagery, we can list down all the choke-points & their exact timings in a month. For the traffic department to work on those areas specifically. I am willing to spend INR 1 Crore on this project by funding: 1-2 senior ML/AI engineers. And providing budget for using Google Maps API calls, Satellite Imagery & GPUs I will start this project, when BTP/BBMP: Open their raw feeds or API access AND names a team, committed to acting on the insights we generate. 🙌 How can you help right now? 1. TAG anyone you know in the Bangalore Traffic Office, BBMP or the Traffic Commissioner’s office, let this hit the right inbox. 2. ML/AI folks: comment "IN", if you can work along part-time to end this menace 3. Every commuter who’s sick of bleeding time: comment or share. More noise -> faster response. Bengalore is India’s tech future; and people making it happen deserve MUCH better. #BangaloreTraffic #AIforGood #OpenData #CSR #peakbengaluru
