People keep asking how Barça could afford João Pedro for €100M if Julián Álvarez is supposedly “too expensive,” but the situations are completely different. According to reports, Atlético wants immediate cash for Álvarez because PSG is bidding and Barça is a direct rival. Chelsea, meanwhile, could be more open to installments because of Premier League Profit & Sustainability Rule issues. So while João Pedro may cost €100M on paper, Barça wouldn’t pay it all at once. A 5 year deal would spread the fee through amortization, meaning it would count around €20M per year on the books. If Barça return to the 1:1 rule and Lewandowski leaves, that would also free up a massive amount in wages, helping create space for both João Pedro’s fee and salary. Hope that explains it well, and if you guys have questions, just comment. Obviously the deal would still be difficult and there are a lot of factors involved. There’s no guarantee Chelsea would accept installments or anything like that, but this is just a simplified explanation of why Barça could see the João Pedro deal as more possible than the Álvarez one.

Chelsea fans should stop trying to convince themselves that João Pedro would reject Barça or wouldn’t want to join us. No sane player is turning down Barcelona to stay at a Chelsea side that won’t even be playing Champions League football next season. Barça have many obstacles in this deal: the price, his long contract, the fact Chelsea only just signed him and won’t want to sell, and plenty of other complications, but i'm sure João Pedro’s willingness to join is not going to be one of them.
