Let’s be clear, once and for all: A true no-hitter is a feat of grit and determination; it’s just one man out there on the mound for nine innings, battling fatigue as he navigates the opposing lineup not once, not twice, but at least THRICE, refusing to yield. It takes STUFF. It takes MOXIE. A combined no-no, meanwhile, usually involves a parade of hard-throwing relievers that are permitted to let every pitch rip at max velo while also receiving the benefit of hitters only getting to see them once that day, confidently draining the tank because they know full well that their chunk of the game is just an inning or so. Praising six guys for throwing a “combined no-hitter” is no different than praising six guys for running a “combined marathon” in an hour and a half. In both cases, you take a definitively individual feat and stick the word “combined” in front of it after dividing up the workload to a point where the participants don’t need to pace themselves, keep anything in reserve, or reinvent themselves the third time through the order. Combined no-hitters are not a feat of performance, but rather one of mathematical rarity; each of these relievers throws a ton of hitless single innings every year, one at a time, and getting them all to happen on the same day is just a numbers game. @pamsson I feel like for the most part, a no-hitter is a single pitcher’s accomplishment & that’s how they’re kept track of historically. When a combined one happens that certainly is an accomplishment for the team. I’d celebrate it if I were on the field.

How do we feel about combined no-hitters?

I went to the replies to this expecting someone to be like, “Actually, Jon, Memorial Day is a good time to remember the fallen.” But it’s just a bunch of whining Mets fans, which is somehow even funnier.

I also think they should call up Reyzelmen soon. I expect Lagrange to be in the bullpen down the stretch as well. Still have Yerry as well who is pretty reliable. They have options but they just aren't using them so Ryan Yarbrough can pitch once every week or so.

The Yankees bullpen hasn't completely ran out of gas because the starters have been so good. But it's pretty telling that if Boone is any kind of trouble he goes to Cruz or Headrick. Just has 0 faith in Doval. Luckily relievers are easy to come by in season so I expect moves.

The best thing you can do for fallen soldiers on Memorial Day is to stop voting for politicians who make more of them.

If anything this just tells you the major issues/flaws with expected statistics. You need many other data points to draw any conclusions about anything. Pretty worthless presenting this alone #Yankees

I suppose is particularly unlucky that Kevin Kelly walked Grisham and also threw the pitch that Aaron Judge was able to hit beyond the fence at the stadium in which yesterday’s game was played.

The Yankees have 9 above average hitters (min. 80 PA) with 4 above a 140 wRC+. You’d have no idea from the way people are talking about them.

Aaron Judge: 4th walk-off HR since 2022. That's tied with Patrick Bailey for the most in MLB during that span.

That Trent Grisham walk was pretty damn important. He’s getting a little more consistent recently and now has a 101 wRC+. I expect that number to rise as the season goes on.
