A snapshot of my native London and antisemitism in this clip from @jomanaCNN as she rides with the Met Police on “proactive patrols” in the predominantly Jewish areas of North London — the same streets I grew up on. Met officers openly admitting the demand is “astronomical” — the highest they’ve ever seen. Why? Physical assaults, Nazi salutes, “Heil Hitler,” “baby killers,” and people punched in the face simply for being visibly Jewish. Since October 7th, and spiking again during the Iran conflict, antisemitic offenses have surged. What started as temporary police patrols are now permanent. Watch 24-year-old Nathaniel Fahidi — “not particularly religious”— who says “I now refrain from being openly Jewish.” Some families in his community are leaving the UK because “being here just doesn’t feel safe anymore.” This is Britain in 2026. The country I was born in. The one where, as a Jewish schoolgirl in the 1960s, I endured years of antisemitic bullying — kicked, spat on, swastikas carved into my desk, head down the toilet. I learned the hard way that fighting back was the only language the bullies understood. Yet even my experience feels mild compared to what British Jews face today: antisemitism on steroids, no longer confined to schoolyard thugs but widespread across society. British Jews are living with the repercussions of hatred thousands of miles away, while the authorities manage the symptoms instead of confronting the causes.
