Too many are too polite to say this. But mass ritual prayer in public places is an act of domination. The adhan - which declares there is no god but allah and Muhammad is his messenger - is, when called in a public place, a declaration of domination. Perform these rituals in mosques if you wish. But they are not welcome in our public places and shared institutions. And given their explicit repudiation of Christianity they certainly do not belong in our churches and cathedrals. I am not suggesting everybody at Trafalgar Square last night is an Islamist. But the domination of public places is straight from the Islamist playbook. Trafalgar Square belongs to all of us. It is a national memorial to our independence and our salvation. Last night was not like a televised football match or a St Patrick’s Day celebration. It was an act of domination and therefore division. It shouldn’t happen again.

Trafalgar Square is highly significant to British people as the symbolic heart of London and a national hub for commemoration, being adjacent to the cenotaph and Horse Guards. Was the mass Muslim prayer event an act of dominance or simply disrespectful?

But I'm lucky, I have a family who look after me really well. My daughter, for instance, rescued me from the supermarket and took me to her place, where I spent a couple of hours in bed with cats. And I like cats. Feeling better but still tired.

JFC, I'm sick of being chronically sick. Muscles ache, joints hurt, weak as a kitten. This afternoon I nearly collapsed in the bloody supermarket. It's worse this week because of the disturbance and stress of having a new bathroom installed.

@scotlass42 @AudreySuffolk It was a few minutes of prayer in Arabic. Not preaching, not trying to convert, not telling non-muslims they were going to hell. They were just giving thanks to their god. And it was followed by the distribution of food to all who wanted it, including non-muslims.

We are deeply concerned at the political language and furore that has been whipped up against people simply praying in Trafalgar Square. The prayer was spontaneous, no extremist groups were attached to it, there were people simply celebrating the end of Ramadan. Words have consequences and the dehumanising of Muslims simply praying is sickening. It needs to STOP and be called out.
