The Reserve Bank just raised rates 25 basis points to 4.35%.
That makes it 3 consecutive rate rises and takes Australia's cash rate to the same level as the height of the 2022-23 inflation spike.
The decision was almost unanimous, with 8 of 9 board members voting for it.

I suspect this is dead right.
We're past the point where excise is deterring smokers - the black market cancer sticks have put paid to that idea... *and* it's costing the Budget a fortune.
Keeping excise at this level is indefensible nonsense on both fronts

This is *obviously* the case. Good on Governor Bullock for saying it.
Economics 101:
Prices go up, when there is more demand at any given level of supply.
If a government taxes $10, but spends $11, they are adding to demand.
Prices will be higher than if they just spent $10.

In fact, FOMO and missing a train you wish you were on, is actually more psychologically painful than taking a loss.
