Dear @IncomeTaxIndia, stop taking income tax even before salary is credited to my bank account. Who worked the whole month, you or me? Have some common sense. At the end of the year, if I owe taxes after expenses, I will pay them, just like corporates do. Why is the salaried middle class treated differently every single time? Stop this nonsense. Enough of squeezing honest taxpayers. @FinMinIndia @nsitharaman

How BJP fooled the middle class. 1. They said there were ₹1.25 lakh crore oil bonds, so excise duty had to be increased. They raised the duty from ₹9 to ₹33 within just a couple of years. 2. In the name of those bonds, they extracted nearly ₹42 lakh crores from the public. 3. When crude oil prices fell to $30 to $40, they did not pass the benefit to the common people. Instead, they increased various taxes to keep boosting revenue. 4. When they got the opportunity to buy cheap oil from Russia, they allowed one rich businessman to buy that oil, bring it to India, and then sell it to richer nations. He earned around ₹45,000 crores, while the common people got nothing. 5. Then a minister introduced ethanol blending. Without public consent, petrol was mixed with ethanol from sugarcane. His children allegedly made profits in billions, while the common public not only got no relief, but also faced reduced mileage and damage to many vehicles. 6. Now, when a crisis is looming because of failed government policies, instead of making excise duty zero, they still want to burden the same common people. 7. They know that this time the public may not spare them, so now they have started appealing, begging, and blaming international markets. For the last 12 years, it is the common public that has paid the heavy price for the sheer failures of this government. Now they say other countries also increased fuel prices. Yes, because those countries did not loot the public when crude prices were at rock bottom. Minimum wages and salaries in those countries are many times higher than ours, and they provide world class education, healthcare, transport, and multiple other benefits. What do we have in India?🤔

Forest department of Maharashtra now will approve permission to cut trees within 15 days from earlier 30 days to industries for the sake of ease of doing businesses. Number of documents required to submit has reduced from 11 to 5 for applicants. Don't worry guys. State is pretty thoughtful. MH Green Commission to be founded to plant 300 crores of trees across the state by 2047.

Rahul Gandhi just walked through the forest Modi wants to flatten. Here’s what won’t make it to the press release: → Govt told Parliament 8.65 lakh trees would be felled. Scientists say the actual number is 1 CRORE+ → Adani Group filed an official expression of interest to build the Great Nicobar port → ANIIDCO literally self-certified its own environmental clearance; its MD was simultaneously the Environment & Forests Secretary of the islands → The Chief Secretary who chairs ANIIDCO’s board was also on the committee investigating complaints against the project → Coastal maps were quietly reclassified from CRZ-1A (prohibited) → CRZ-B (permitted) to make the port “legal”; with zero public disclosure of the methodology → The Nicobarese tribes withdrew their consent in 2022, citing unsettled forest rights. The project moved forward anyway This is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Two national parks. The last home of the Shompen people; all 200 of them. And the government is bulldozing it for a port that Adani wants to run. Rahul Gandhi is right. This isn’t a project. It’s a heist in the tricolour’s clothing.
Rahul Gandhi@RahulGandhi

I travelled through Great Nicobar today. These are the most extraordinary forests I have ever seen in my life. Trees older than memory. Forests that took generations to grow. The people on this island are equally beautiful - both the adivasi communities and the settlers - but they are being robbed of what is rightfully theirs. The government calls what it is doing here a “Project.” What I have seen is not a project. It is millions of trees marked for the axe. It is 160 square kilometres of rainforest condemned to die. It is communities that have been ignored while their homes have been snatched away. This is not development. This is destruction dressed in development’s language. So I will say it plainly, and I will keep saying it: what is being done in Great Nicobar is one of the biggest scams and gravest crimes against this country’s natural and tribal heritage in our lifetime. It must be stopped. And it can be stopped - if Indians choose to see what I have seen.

What @narendramodi do you think this money is coming from your grandfather's estate? Daylight Dacoits like you and @nsitharaman loot hardworking meritorious individuals to fund freebie schemes for a billion plus freeloaders! Other than freebies and jumlas, what did you really do for the development of this country and to enhance the quality of life of individuals? All progressive schemes for development are only on paper and for optics. #AbolishIncomeTax

It is deeply unfortunate that the Prime Minister chose to mislead the nation rather than address it honestly. Let me put this on record. Trinamool Congress has always championed higher political representation for women. We have the highest proportion of female elected representatives in both Parliament and the State Legislature. In the Lok Sabha, 37.9% of our elected members are women. In the Rajya Sabha, we have nominated 46% women members. The question of opposing Women's Reservation does not arise and never has. What we are fundamentally opposed to is the Delimitation exercise that the Modi Government was plotting to push through by using women as a shield for its vested political agenda. What we are fundamentally opposed to is the altering of Babasaheb Ambedkar's Constitution, the division of this nation and the usurpation of power through gerrymandering, by redrawing political contours to hand greater representation to BJP-ruled states at the expense of others. This is an assault on federal democracy. And we will not watch it happen in silence. If this government was genuinely serious about this noble cause, why did it wait nearly three years after the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill on September 28, 2023? Why rush it through when several states are in election? And why couple it with Delimitation? Trinamool Congress has stood for women for decades. We will continue to. But we will not be lectured on a subject that the ruling dispensation neither understands nor respects. And Mr. Prime Minister, the next time you address the nation, have the courage to do so from the Floor of Parliament, where you are subject to scrutiny, challenge and accountability. What you did yesterday was cowardly, hypocritical and fork-tongued. You can feel power slipping through your fingers. And you are prepared to go to any extent to hold on for just a little while longer. That is all this was.

A desperate and frustrated PM @narendramodi with nothing meaningful to show for the last 12 years, turned an official address to the nation, into a political speech, full of mudslinging, and outright LIES. The Model Code of Conduct is already in place and it was very clear how PM Modi misused official machinery to attack his opponents. This is a travesty of Democracy and the Constitution of India. Modi ji mentioned Congress 59 times and women barely few times. That tells the country everything about his priorities. Women are not the BJP’s priority. Congress is, because Congress stands on the right side of history. Congress has always supported women’s reservation. We were the party that passed the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Rajya Sabha in 2010 so that it would not lapse. The BJP could not get that Bill passed in the Lok Sabha. They brought another Bill in 2023 and the Congress Party supported that too. That Bill still exists. In fact, it was notified on 16th April, while the Lok Sabha was discussing these delimitation Constitutional Amendment Bills. This was done by the same Prime Minister. The fact that it took the BJP 3 years to notify their own bill, shows their commitment to India’s Naari Shakti ! Modi ji should STOP lying to the nation — 1. He should implement 33% reservation for women in the existing 543 Lok Sabha seats under the 2023 law. Do not deny women their due representation now. 2. Stop mixing up the delimitation bills, i.e, the 3 Constitution Amendment Bills with the Women’s Reservation Bill. Stop lying to the nation that this was an amendment to the Women’s Reservation Bill — the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. It was NOT. This was purely a delimitation Bill, brought in to create further division and redraw the electoral map in a manner that can only benefit the BJP. 3. Apologise to 140 Crore Indians. Congress has always been pro-reform. Congress transformed Indian agriculture through the Green Revolution, strengthened dairy development through the White Revolution, created our Space sector, made India a Nuclear power, Liberalised the economy in 1991, 60 Crore ADHAAR cards were distributed before Modi ji took office. Congress passed RTI, RTE, Food Security Act, MGNREGA - which Modi ji repealed. We passed some of the most important pro-women laws in Indian history — from the Hindu Code Bills which your ideological forefathers opposed to workplace sexual harassment laws, domestic violence bills to criminal law reforms after the recommendations of the Justice Verma Committee. The BJP has been anti-women in both action and attitude. They have no answers for Hathras. They have no answers for Unnao. They have no answers for the treatment of Haryana’s women wrestlers. They have shielded rapists within their own party. They released the rapists in the Bilkis Bano case. They have garlanded criminals and rapists. The NCRB data itself shows that crimes against women are highest in BJP-ruled states. After 12 and a half years in power, in the middle of an international crisis, high inflation, a deteriorating economy, sliding Rupee, and deep public distress, the Prime Minister had nothing to offer the nation except a political speech. Even with the Model Code of Conduct in place, he chose to blame the Opposition, especially Congress, for his own failures, his own betrayal, and his own apathy. Lastly, BJP-RSS divides the nation. RSS supported the British against Indians and wrote mercy petitions to them. Every Indian knows that Modi Jis political masters — RSS are against WOMEN. They believe in Manusmiti, which encourages DIVISION, and NOT the Constitution of India.

No PM has ever used a national address to openly criticise and target the opposition in this manner. PM Modi has broken this long-standing democratic norm with his address to the nation tonight. By directly attacking opposition over the Women’s Reservation Bill and likening their actions to ‘foeticide’ and being ‘anti-women’, this speech has made it evident that the BJP is willing to go to any extent to undermine healthy parliamentary conventions and constitutional traditions. It’s evident that Govt has lost its balance after the drubbing it got in the Loksabha yesterday. High time this rhetoric be stoped.. Let the Govt come forward sincerely to address the speedy implementation of Women’s reservation … and don’t meddle with the democratic-federal India . #stopthejhumla #democraticIndia #federalism

Yesterday was the first time I did not watch Prime Minister's address to the nation. Simply because I knew the topic he would be addressing and was not interested in his explanations. There was no need to club delimitation and women's reservation. There was no need to do this in middle of the state elections. Women's reservation bill has already been passed by parliament in September 2023. Since both Prime Minister and Home Minister many times verbally promised that states representation percentage would remain the same after delimitation and specifically assured Tamil Nadu that it's 7.2% representation would not change, why the bill did not explicitly mention so? It is not difficult to mention in bill what PM and HM was saying. That the 1971 census continues to remain frozen as the base year and expansion of seats in parliament would ensure similar percentage of representation for each and every state continues say for next 25 years. Definitely Prime Minister and Home Minister knew the bill would fail in parliament. Home Minister is not a person who brings a bill despite knowing it would fail. The whole thing doesn't smell good. The impacted states needs to be extremely vigilant.

The Strait of Hormuz is entirely within Iranian & Omani territorial waters. Yes, international law guarantees free passage through it. But if you want international law to apply in the Strait, let it apply when it comes to Iran first. Apply international law to fight aggressions against sovereign nations first. Otherwise all 40 countries & yourself should shut the fuck up.
Kaja Kallas@kajakallas

Thank you @YvetteCooperMP for convening a call of over 40 countries on the Strait of Hormuz. This waterway is a global public good. Iran cannot be allowed to charge countries a bounty to let ships pass. International law doesn’t recognise pay-to-pass schemes. Today, we looked at diplomatic, economic, and security measures to restore safe passage, alongside working with the shipping industry. The EU’s Aspides naval mission has already assisted 1,700 ships in the Red Sea and must be scaled up. We cannot afford to lose another critical trade route. We support work by the UN on humanitarian corridors in the Strait to get food and fertilisers out. The EU has tools to track and facilitate transit that could help with that.

"It was outside Indian waters" is the most pathetic cope I've seen in a while. We invited the IRIS Dena to Vishakhapatnam for International Fleet Review 2026, the Indian Navy tweeted welcome photos talking about "bridges of friendship," and the ship got torpedoed on its way home 40 nautical miles off Sri Lanka. 87+ sailors dead and at least 60 more missing. Sri Lanka launched rescue operations while India, the host country, the self-proclaimed net security provider of the Indian Ocean, has said nothing. But sure, it was technically outside our EEZ so let's all pretend our guest didn't just get murdered walking out of our driveway because the property line ends at the gate.

So, let me get this straight, @SecWar . You just sank an Iranian frigate, which was returning from an international naval exercise in India, near Sri Lanka. In other words, you attacked an unsuspecting "enemy ship" in international waters, thousands of nautical miles from the combat zone in the Middle East. You know, who conducted such cowardly attacks on unsuspecting naval targets before you? Nazi Germany.

This will go down in history as one of the most reckless, most egregious actions committed by the USG. There is no justification for it. The ship was returning from a naval exercise in India. They could have been blockaded, prevented from reaching their home country. But this was a plain massacre, and it happened too close to Indian waters.

Something doesn’t add up. And every Indian should be asking this question. MILAN 2026, Visakhapatnam, February 2026: ✅ Iran invited → sent warship IRIS Dena, sailed into Indian waters, participated fully ✅ USA invited → sent only personnel. No warship. No fleet. Weeks later, a US submarine allegedly sinks IRIS Dena in the Indian Ocean, just after it left India’s shores. 148 sailors missing. So the country that skipped sending its warship, allegedly sank the country that trusted India enough to send theirs. And India? India provided the stage. India provided the legitimacy. India provided the farewell. Was MILAN 2026 used to track Iranian naval movements? Was India’s goodwill, and Indian Ocean, used as an operational corridor for this attack? Did Modi’s government know? Did they ask? Did they even think to ask? When a friend’s ship leaves your port and gets sunk; you don’t stay silent. Unless you have a reason to. The silence isn’t just shameful anymore. It’s suspicious. India deserves answers, Modi Ji.
Sidhant Sibal@sidhant

While Iran, & US both were invited for the Indian Navy's key events in February, Iran had sent its warships, US skipped sending its Warships (possibly as it preparing for the war). Only US personnel were present representing the country.
