OG Swedish House Mafia (incl Eric Prydz) set yesterday at Miami Ultra was special. Hopefully a harbinger of the genre finding its way again after the disaster that has been electronic music these last few years. The 2012–2014 progressive house sound that these guys defined got swallowed by the big-room/future-bass/dubstep hybrid era, and then COVID basically cratered the live ecosystem that gave electronic music its cultural energy. What came back post-2020 is largely optimized for algorithmic use in TikTok/Reels, sets and festivals feel more like content production shoots than live experiences, and a lot of it is just spiritually dead. The audience quality has declined a lot too.

This might be a stronger clap back than you’ve had against the war or your corrupt colleagues. But we don’t need any more silly beefs like this. You voted in favor of Iron Dome a couple of times. That’s ok, water under the bridge. You voted for IHRA definition of antisemitism, which is inexplicable and egregious. Of course, sending any kind of weapons to Israel is worse than the speech you blocked, but it’s against all progressive beliefs to equate criticism of Israel with antisemitism. I know that stuff is really popular in Washington, but it’s unacceptable to take our speech rights away like that. But everything in the past is erased the minute you start fighting. So, please fight as hard as you can against this war, the insane Israeli aggression and the occupation. No, you’re not fighting nearly hard enough right now. Yes, we would like you in the battlefield next to us. If you can’t fight the establishment over this, what can you fight them over? Either you put your boots on and stand a post or we’re not interested in any sarcastic comments toward people who have been fighting against this war and Israel’s control over this country in the trenches this whole time.

I’m an older millennial. We had a pretty great run. We grew up with actual childhoods before everything moved online, but we still got the internet early enough to understand it before it took over everything. We had landlines, AIM, mall culture, good music, and just enough technology to make life fun without making it weird. Old enough to remember life before smartphones. Young enough to adapt to all of it. That was a sweet spot.

Anyone can become American, no matter where they came from, but they must adopt American values. You don’t get to build a mini-version of your country in ours. 2. Fair capitalism.
