Post Office comms director, Mark Davies, joked that "it's fascinating to be part of a conspiracy... the heart of a corporate cover up" in a January 2015 email. "It's just - whisper it quietly - all is not what it seems". He wrote it to "make me feel better". #PostOfficeInquiry

I sometimes get told that Very British Problems is too gentle or twee, by people who seem to think that because they don’t want that kind of humour then nobody does. But a lot of people really like having a bit of gentleness in their lives. Not everything has to be edgy.

#PostOfficeScandal LATEST: POL Head of Legal, Hugh Flemington cannot remember why he was made Head of Legal at Post Office, or what legal advice he gave anyone. He simply cannot recall anything! What a 'witness' to illustrate Post Office Executive amnesia syndrome!
Edward Harkins @edwardhar.bsky.social@EdwardHarkins

Need for urgent other inquiry into possible causes of a wave of industrial injury or occupational risks in the Post Office? Memory loss seems a serious affliction; PO witness Hugh Flemington latest witness suffering from remarkable degree of 'can't remember'. #PostOfficeInquiry

@Flatvowels @DeputyGrocott At 58, went interrailing to Slovenia from Totnes with my 10 year old daughter, 13 year old son and my wife. Lovely roomy French trains. Enjoyed just looking out over changing vistas and walking through the train.

@DeputyGrocott Having fone Paris to the South of France several times, just enjoy how the view changes. The trains are comfy and you can eat in the buffet car and watch the view. The croque monsieurs are good value too.

In a few weeks we are heading to the south of France all by train (Eurostar then train through France). It takes about 10 hours in total. Any top tips or hacks? Things to take on the journey etc etc Special cushions, activities, anything really.

@StuartLock @LauraFMcConnell Sign of poor employee and misuse of emotional labour. Probably popular in places like the post office under previous evil beige types and academics. Sign not to work there.

For what it is worth: - having a few clear rules in a school is essential - enforcing/defending them necessary - putting them on a poster aids clarity for all so is sensible

I have been listening to @GlennonDoyle podcasts on having fun. My life has become about surviving the day and looking after other people, with not enough fun. Fun tops up the tanks. So having true fun, is my new mission. Anyone else been feeling this? Reckon I am not alone

@TimMcKenna01 @ExeterChiefs Bit jealous of you having a bike. Been interrailing thru France, Germany, Austria and Slovenia. All seem great for bikes. Lots of spaces for bikes particularly in Germany. On the way home tomorrow. Having fun on the Dumbo ride at Paris Disneyland.

@TimMcKenna01 I'm in Paris at Disneyland with kids hoping to escape to see the rugby on a screen. As a Devon lad more interested in catching, metaphorically speaking, Henry Slade and Immanuel Feyi-Waboso. @ExeterChiefs

Toulouse news. Plan was to spend today in the city, then move on tomorrow. However, Toulouse & Exeter play a huge European match on Sunday, & I've got a ticket. The chance to see Antoine Dupont et al play live was too much to resist! So two days in Toulouse, then Sète on Monday.

Former Post Office boss Alan Cook telling inquiry he had no idea that the PO could initiate its own prosecutions has to be one of the feeblest excuses of all time. He literally had no idea how the business he was running operated

@sib313 Psychologist Albert Ellis wrote "In the long run [Peale's teachings] lead to failure and disillusionment.." Sense all these get rich, happy self-improvement cults end the same way. Every day in every way I'm getting worse repeating some nonsense self-affirmation.

Or that they hand out free copies of the Norman Vincent Peale book "the Power of Positive Thinking" (worth noting Peale was a close friend of the Trump family and big influence on the ex-president)...

What is the best way to turn around a failing organisation? 1. Relentless positive thinking to bolster morale to drive improvement 2. Brutal honesty and transparency about how bad things are promoting realism about the need for change ...

There is something joyfully courageous about @raynor_winn's The Salt Path (@PenguinBooks) – a beautifully written account of a gruelling 630-mile trek against the odds with an unexpectedly happy ending. Sometimes real life is more thrilling than fiction.
