@GoodwinMJ The response to this book shows how badly it is needed.

In more than 2,000 schools in England today a majority of children no longer speak English as their main language. My critics might not think that tells us something important about what is happening to our country. But I do. And I will not change my view shorturl.at/f5iAJ

Agreed. The problem is the debate in the UK is being driven by gen Z. They carry an understandable sense of anger and loss, and they lash out. The debate needs to focus on what a patriot is. Clearly a benchmark based on this would enable the necessary deportation levels. Just as importantly it would leave unity and a workable political community behind it. Not a wasteland.

This is an odd thing that you don’t find in America, the notion that you must be white to be British. I’ve seen some prominent British commentators, whom I thought were extremely intelligent, suggest that if your heritage isn’t white you should be treated as second-class. It’s a really dumb premise not rooted in any logic or science. In the United States we don’t separate ethnicity and nationalism. Sure, we have a debate about racism, but even the racists don’t suggest that other races aren’t American. Maybe it’s because we fought a war to end slavery and ensure that black and brown people have the same rights as white people. The question is, how are we such a young country already learned in the pitfalls of ethno-nationalism while some in ancient and storied Britain still entertain such a barbaric and neanderthalic principle?
Ben Habib@benhabib6

What utter garbage. @Nanaakua1 is English and British There is no room in any serious political party for ethnically based nationalism. Yes the rate of demographic change is of huge concern Yes mass migration combined with multiculturalism is undermining our national identity Yes progressive discrimination is a disaster. But Nana is English and British. Ethno-nationalism is inherently un-British. It would lead our wonderful country into a very dark alley.

@DanielJHannan Such sad news, I was one of many who benefited from Simon's advice, kindness and support many years ago. He lived the change he believed in. We need so many more people like him. RIP Simon.

@SurfCity_Cycles The 2025 low could be some sort of stealth 4 year low? Then the 4 year cycle high could be some time in 2027 leading to a left translated and failed cycle into a big low around 2028/29.

The UK spends less on its roads than almost any other OECD country. And infrastructure repair and construction can cost 10 times more in the UK than most comparable nations. Much of the problem is rooted in a subject less discussed - corporate overcharging, the revolving door between government and big business as well as corruption.

I recently drove from Norfolk to Nottingham and back again. Several times during the journey my car bounced over a deep pothole, and I felt the clunk underneath, each time wondering if some damage had been caused to the car. This used to be quite a rare thing. Now it happens frequently. A small but obvious sign of how our country is slowly undeveloping.

@RupertLowe10 An individual attendance rate of 95% or 96% could be the level at which children become eligible for days out of school without parents being fined. I suspect the incentive of a rule like this would actually force up overall attendance levels.

Under a Restore Britain Government, parents would have the right to take their children out of school for a limited number of days per year without getting fined. Assuming the child is developing well, and attendance is otherwise good, families will be entitled to spend that time with their children as they see fit. I strongly believe that parents should be the decision-maker in a child's life. If they believe that a family holiday will provide benefits to their son or daughter, that is their decision. That power belongs to the family, not the state. For many, the costs during holidays are simply extortionate - it is the difference between going or not. Often parents just pay the fine regardless as it's cheaper than the hiked price difference. It's insanity. Where is that money going? I sincerely doubt it is being spent well. Time away with the family can bring enormous value that school simply cannot. A small policy change that would make a big difference to British families. Of course this needs to be done reasonably and sensibly, but Restore Britain is unashamedly pro-family. That will resonate across our political party's entire policy platform.

Agreed, but from a risk management point of view why were so many encouraged to stay in an asset that was technically looking so weak? The psychological damage of holding through a bear market can be devastating. I was horrified when I looked at the social media of some bitcoin cheer leaders - the USA based ones. It was a shocking example of cynical liquidity creation; Institutions selling to retail traders taken in by the hype. So many people will be hurting now and I really feel for them. I hope they get their money back. The lessons I hope they learn are to read a chart, manage risk and ignore the hype. Hope is not a strategy.

So many people crowing about bitcoin at the moment are going to get their arses handed to them on a plate full of very humble pie when the cycle turns up, as it will. It has been repeatedly demonstrated that bitcoin is a volatile asset that goes to the extremities of both pessimism and optimism, that it is also cyclical and that it crucifies hubris. Those cheering the bear market have clearly not learned. Instead of cheering the win, I urge you to take advantage of this bear market and use it to learn. Please don't reply to this with uninformed FUD. I will only mute you.

❎Over 500,000 people have claimed asylum in the UK from 2019-2025. This includes small boats, other illegal arrivals and visa overstays. ❎Around 60% of claims will be granted. That means 300,000 claimants given the right to stay in the UK with access to benefits. The majority get social housing or Universal Credit rent support. ❎On current trends, another 350,000 more will claim asylum 2026-2029. ❎If half are granted, the grand total of successful asylum claims from 2019-2029 will be over 475,000. ❎That means a tax payer subsidised illegal migrant population almost the size of Liverpool.

China poses a 'whole-of-state' threat to the UK. That was the conclusion of Parliament’s Intelligence and Security Committee in 2023. It said Chinese espionage and infiltration was targeting our government, industry, academia, military and critical infrastructure. Mentioning the word 'threat' 284 times, the report said China was undermining our national security and democracy.

In the play 'A Man for All Seasons,' Sir Thomas More, (canonised by Pope Pius XI in 1935), says: "Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned round on you—where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country's planted thick with laws from coast to coast—man's laws, not God's—and if you cut them down—and you're just the man to do it—d'you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake."

According to Trump, when a government starts killing its own citizen protesters, OTHER nations then have the right to bomb that country, invade its territory, overthrow its government, start bank runs and attack its currency. Of course, it's a stupid justification for war against Iran, but I'm wondering if Trump thinks that same rule now applies against the United States. If he were consistent, then if some other country like China were to start bombing America to "free the people from the tyranny of their own government," that would be exactly what Trump says he's doing to Iran. I pray for peace. But it's clear we're never going to get it under Trump. The only Nobel Peace Prize he can ever acquire is stolen from someone else under the threat of kinetic violence. He's a gangster.

This is one of the most important charts in politics. The cost-of-living crisis is set to enter a new phase in 2027. The chart below is one of the main commodities funds. Look what it did from 2021 to 2022 when the cost-of-living crisis exploded. My map from last October is playing out ahead of time. In 2 years, prices could go way past the highs of 2022. This would have a huge impact on global politics. It could kill net zero, see the end of the Labour party and possibly a 2028 general election.
