There’s been a long trend in sports of high level athletes adopting “healthy” diets and seeing massive performance drops. They tend to always pursue either low carb or vegan diets and remove too much power from diet and their output craters. Halaand is a new breed with a diet filled with deeply nutritious animal foods paired with dense carb sources and he’s seeing peak performance. I think why this is the path he’s taken versus most American athletes is that much of his diet is made of culturally Norwegian foods. He didn’t chase trends as much, though he’s obviously been influenced by much of the nutrition advice you see on here. Most professional athletes especially in America eat a lot of junk food, and that food does provide fuel. When Americans try to be healthy they cut out the junk and don’t make up the difference. You would rarely see a health conscious athlete drinking milk or eating pasta, but since he’s kept more traditional Norwegian carb sources like oats and sourdough bread, he knew to never fear carbs. I know I just had a post saying his success is largely due to his genetics and not his diet, the point is he didn’t wreck his performance when he went healthy because he didn’t restrict macronutrients, just junk.

@SimoneSyed Better but hard to really trust anything. Just gets really frustrating to be secure beyond that. Swapping keys etc. Then the bigger question if your device is compromised.

Isaiah Taylor - making nuclear reactors
There is no escaping jet fuel It is truly the pinnacle of chemistry, the best thing to come from the periodic table yet Nobody has yet faced the carbon single bond chain and won
Isaiah Taylor - making nuclear reactors@isaiah_p_taylor

@mzjacobson Unfortunately when you factor in oxygen, it ends up being ~3.5kWh/kg, so 3x worse than jet fuel Jets are already constrained on weight I think it’s far more likely that we just make jet fuel cheaper and carbon neutral by synthesizing it from air via externally cheap nuclear

People have finally quantified how bad a donor Mackenzie Scott has been since her divorce with Bezos If she had given effectively, to charities known to deliver larger returns, she could've been 50 to 100 or perhaps even 1,500-times more effective! She's an Ineffective Altruist

.@mackenziescott has given away $26 billion. What did it buy in health? I built an interactive model from her own gift database: ~70,000 QALYs weighting each study by causal credibility, ~200,000 taking every effect at face value.

@SimoneSyed no no no - part of the purpose of the internet was to honeypot the 4chan weirdos and make them feel like they are doing something so they don't go out and actually do something [because it would be something horrible].
