Tom Brady said it best: “You don’t have to be special. You just have to be what most people aren’t: consistent, determined, and willing to work for it.” That’s the real separator. Not talent. Not hype. Just relentless effort.

"If you want to improve the quality of your results, start by examining the quality of your process." @Justinsua Effort, discipline, and sacrifice are not for everyone.  But neither is playing time, winning, or success.

Every year, freshmen show up to a new school & get warned about the “mean coach” by teammates who can’t handle being held accountable. Be smart. Don’t take advice from the ones who are soft. The truth? Good coaches hold you accountable. Weak minds just don’t survive the standard!

There are players out there right now who no one is noticing at 11, 12, 13 years old who will end up playing past high school. There are also kids out there at the same ages everyone talks about and coaches drool over who will become just another player in high school. Be very careful of judging and labeling those late bloomers AND those early developed players. So much can change in those teenage years.

PLAYERS: Talent is just a starting point. Just because you have talent doesn't mean you're good yet. Success is maximized when your work ethic, attitude, hustle, and consistency start to match the level of your talent.

This will probably ruffle the wrong feathers but it needs to be said: A lot of parents say they want rigorous schools but don’t want what that actually means in practice Nightly homework? Sometimes bad grades? Stress? To be told that yes your child did disrespect their teacher? They want their little shnoockums to get straight As and be told that they’re just a little angel. Actual rigor be damned.

Almost all athletes can play their best in practice, but not many athletes can play their best in games, when the stakes are high and people are watching. The ability to perform under pressure is what separates champions from everyone else.

"You don’t get rewarded for doing what is required." @inkyjohnson Greatness is not given to a chosen few. Greatness is earned by the few who choose to do 'more than what's required'.

THE COMPLETE INFIELDER …. A DIRT BRO… HAS IT ALL… Elite feet, elite hands, elite eyes (seeing the ball at high speeds), elite judgement (reading hops/angles), efficient transition from field to throw, ability to repeat mechanics, short arm stroke, ability to throw from all arm angles … on the run. Various footwork patterns… Elite Range and timing…. Soft hands… The ability to make plays one handed or two handed. Have a strong arm (when needed) and a very accurate arm… ALWAYS. On top of all this, you must have an elite internal clock. Above average baseball IQ and situational awareness. And It’s critical that all the above be taught and trained regularly. Hope to see you at Dirt Bro Camp This Summer. First camp in two weeks at UNCW. #register-now" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">coachmongero.com/elite-infield-… *** BELOW IS AN EXAMPLE VIDEO OF WAYS OF IMPROVING INFIELDER’S HANDS. @nextlevelbb @CoachTaberM @DirtBroUSA

PLAYERS: A bad coach doesn't make you have a bad attitude. A good coach doesn't make you have a good attitude. Only you can choose your attitude. Circumstances may make things harder or easier but not impossible or automatic. Your attitude shouldn't be situational.

The 10 Inconvenient Truths of Coaching 1. Not every kid wants to be great. 2. You will be misunderstood, often. 3. Some parents care more about playing time than team success. 4. Your best players aren’t always your best leaders. 5. No system works without buy-in. 6. Success brings criticism, too. 7. Culture isn’t built in a week, it’s built daily. 8. You can’t coach every player the same way. 9. Wins don’t always reflect your impact. 10. The job will take more from you than it gives, until years later. Still worth every second. Still a greatest profession.
