Chatting to my neighbour today. I was gobsmacked when he said they’d been paying £270pcm for their gas and electricity bills. For 8 months of the year we’re completely protected from spiralling petrol/diesel/gas/electric costs by producing our own energy and storing it in a battery. For the other 4 months of the year the battery allows us to power shift, utilising very cheap off-peak energy. Based on the average mpg of a diesel (43mpg) and the current £1.60 per litre, this equates to cost of 16p per mile. This means that each kWh we produce (EV average of 4 miles per kWh) is worth around 64p when we put it directly in to our EV as we are doing today and will continue to do throughout the year. If you can, do it. It will save you.

He wryly points out, if oil producers are already taxed at 80% (when they turn a profit) how can they help with the cost of living? The last Government pandered to the clamour for windfall taxes and both they and Labour have left them in place, destroying the financial incentives for companies to invest in exploration and development of our remaining oil and gas reserves. This and the lunacy of banning fracking must be reversed if we are ever to regain a semblance of energy security.
