@TomerPersico Being unable to actually read works written by those who don't agree with you is a sign of low intelligence. Basing a book review off of an internet article is even more stupid. But yeah tell me more about the "shoddy scholarship" random Internet person.

Claiming the “state ideology of Zionism” had to bring about what happened in Gaza is no different then saying the Palestinian national movement had to end in October 7th. It would be a lazy man’s version of historical analysis if it weren’t specifically intended to indict the subject at hand, in this case Israel. One would never entertain the notion that what happened in Rwanda was predetermined or that 9/11 is an unavoidable result of Islam, but there is a specific need to damn Zionism as a distilment of the entire West’s colonialism and racism (and for some reason, capitalism), thus having Jews serve as the sacrificial offering through which Western progressives absolve themselves of civilizational guilt. This reeks of antizionism, bad faith and shoddy scholarship.
The New Yorker@NewYorker

The Israeli historian Omer Bartov argues in his new book that a “state ideology” of Zionism has led to what he calls genocide in Gaza. newyorker.com/culture/the-ne…

People don’t hate Jews because they hate Israel. They hate Israel because they hate Jews. And the recent rapid political shifts are not happening because Netanyahu failed, they are happening because organized American Jewry failed. We believed that building an America that was safe and welcoming for all would build an America that was safe and welcoming for us, but the truth is that the people we welcomed — the third world so many of us foolishly supported importing — despise us, and as their numbers rise and the face of America changes, our position erodes. Third worldism is explicitly antisemitic because the third world is antisemitic, and mass migration from the third world is mass importation of antisemitism. The reason the younger cohort of Americans are anti-Israel isn’t because of anything Israel did, it’s a simple matter of demographics. The Jewish people have enemies and always will. We can extend the olive branch to them. We can preach tolerance. We can try to build bridges. None of that matters, just like it didn’t when organizations and movements progressive Jews offered allyship to and thought would reciprocate abandoned us to support Hamas on October 7, 2023. Our enemies will firebomb Jewish-owned businesses and shoot at synagogues, and when they outnumber us we won’t have any protection from the state. And no amount of peace, love and understanding will dissuade them. Jewish safety is only possible within certain social parameters, and those parameters have been crossed throughout Europe, in Canada and in New York City. It will happen all over America unless we do something quickly to stop it. We have to reconsider what we very recently thought were core Jewish values. We have to quickly recognize who our enemies are and what the new threat to us is, and shift our advocacy for the fight we’re facing. We can’t keep tilting at the windmill of “white supremacy” or the far right. If we don’t make America great again, they’ll make America into a place we can’t live.

This has generally been my experience as a liberal Zionist since October 7th. The blue-haired progressives are “experts” on a conflict they aren’t connected to and definitely don’t understand, whereas you can have nuanced convos with Arabs bc they know the stakes.
Wolfietron@Burneraccount81

We are quickly heading to a place where middle eastern Arabs will have a more nuanced and reasonable view of Israel than White liberals in America. I'm not even a little bit kidding.

@anaraintuitive Because Zionism is a disgusting ideology that must be destroyed. An ideology based on ethnic cleansing and genocide. Who cares about his language when he is a consistent voice of opposition to the forces of evil, aka Israel. Fuck you and your shitty genocidal pariah state.

Israel had a massive left-wing movement and left wing governments. They tried earnestly for years to make peace, and received suicide bombings in return. Because for the Palestinian “partner” the peace process was tactical, not strategic. Somehow this is all forgotten today.

“Why not try to court his vote and bring him into the tent?” What is the point of doing that when AOC’s chances of being the nominee are exceedingly low in the current moment? He is telling you straight up that chances are quite high that he will not support the 2028 dem.

I don’t know what it means to say you’re trying to help democrats beat republicans when the only democrat you commit to voting for in the 2028 *general* is AOC. Guys I don’t want to be unfair here but it sounds like Hasan Piker is not actually trying to beat republicans :/
Marco Foster@MarcoFoster_

Hasan Piker on 2028 candidates Rahm Emanuel: “No” Gavin Newsom: “No” JD Vance: “Absolutely no. I will never vote for a Republican, ever” Gretchen Whitmer: “Maybe. She’s to anti-M4A, but more responsive. I’m 50/50” AOC: “Yes” Tucker Carlson: “No” Cory Booker: “No. Absolutely not” Jon Ossoff: “Again, interesting candidate. Maybe” Kamala Harris: “Oh God. No” Pete Buttigieg: “No”

@ElliotMalin @TheDemocrats Fun fact, everyone despises the outsized influence money has on politics. I prefer my leaders chase votes and not money, but in this country we equate money with votes. No amount of money is worth supporting genocide while preaching freedom and equality. Fuck you.

Democrats are trying to buy time on Israel by making Netanyahu the whole issue. It is a way to appease an increasingly radical part of their base without admitting how far that base has moved from even conditional support for the U.S.-Israel alliance.

Hasan averages between 20-30,000 viewers for his streams. Half are not American and a non zero number are view bots. The dems are catering to someone who may only have 5-10k American voters and many of them are the same people every day
Josh Kraushaar@JoshKraushaar

“International audiences lower the bar even further; only about half of Hasan’s audience is American. Ezra Klein is ready to embrace Piker as an important voice within the Democratic coalition based on his popular appeal, but a significant fraction of that appeal is to audiences who can’t even vote in American elections.”

This neatly encapsulates the moral crisis that has gripped much of the Democratic Party -- with McMorrow now attacking AIPAC after having singled out one of her rivals, a few weeks ago, for being antisemitic. She seems not to grasp that you cannot have it both ways, that trying to do so is actually worse than just being on the side of the neanderthals.

Get ready—this is what we’re in for in 2028. Just like the mayor’s race in NYC was an unofficial referendum on Israel for many voters, so too will the presidential race.

If the Democratic establishment has any hope of holding on to the party, it should end American financial support for Israel—and if it doesn’t, the party will be overrun by a wing with far more radical beliefs, @jonathanchait argues. theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/04/…

A conversation yesterday: Her: “Joe, you can’t be so pro-Israel AND be a Democrat. Democrats are rightly turning on Israel. You gotta do the same.” Me: “If that’s true, if I can’t be a Democrat AND be pro-Israel, then I won’t be a Democrat. I love & support the state of Israel. Period. And I won’t abandon that support to benefit myself politically/bcuz that’s where Dem voters are. Nope. Do you want politicians who are principled, or politicians who just follow which way the wind’s blowing?”

🇵🇸 🏥 Israelis are still allowing “virtually zero medical supplies” into Gaza – Dr. Tarek Loubani, Palestinian-Canadian emergency physician, currently volunteering at Nasser Hospital. Majority Report spoke with Dr. Loubani, the medical director of the Glia Project, in southern Gaza, where he says the health system has been “completely ravaged,” with only three hospitals still functioning and most care now delivered in tents. He says Israeli forces deliberately destroyed equipment and have blocked nearly all supplies despite the ceasefire, leaving doctors without basics. Loubani also describes ongoing shootings, including attacks on children and aid workers. He says the official death toll is a major undercount, estimating around 200,000 direct deaths, with potentially hundreds of thousands more dying indirectly from starvation, disease, and lack of care. 40% of kidney patients who required dialysis have died from lack of treatment since October 2023, @trklou told MR’s @EmmaVigeland.

Some have said that claims that Israel uses dogs to sexually abuse prisoners are antisemitic blood libels. Unfortunately, there is a good deal of evidence. The organizations that confirmed this include B’Tselem, Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor, Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, Council on American-Islamic Relations. Here is the testimony of survivors: 1) "Nihad" (50-year-old father, Ofer Prison): In an interview with Anadolu Agency, Nihad testified that during a pre-dawn raid on January 14, 2024, Israeli soldiers ordered a police dog to sexually assault him. He described it as "the most painful moments of my life" and noted that the assault left him with deep physical wounds and long-term trauma. 2) "A.A." (35-year-old father, Sde Teiman): Arrested from Al-Shifa Hospital in March 2024, A.A. told the PCHR that soldiers took him to a corridor away from cameras, stripped him naked, and unleashed dogs that urinated on him before one dog raped him anally for approximately three minutes. He emphasized that the dog appeared "trained" and "knew exactly what it was doing". 3) "Halim Salem" (Pseudonym, West Bank Detainee): Testified to Middle East Eye that while he was forced to kneel with his head in a toilet, guards brought in a dog that "mounted and raped" him. He recalled that when he screamed, the guards beat him for "disturbing the dog". 4) "Wajdi" (43-year-old, Gaza Detainee): Recounted to the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor that during interrogation, he was tied naked to a metal bed and raped by both a soldier and a dog while other soldiers filmed and mocked him. 5) Mohammed Arab (Al Araby TV Correspondent): While detained at Sde Teiman, he told his lawyer he witnessed soldiers forcing dogs to rape prisoners. He stated, "They teach their dogs to have sex with prisoners. Can you imagine?". 6) 18-year-old Gazan Detainee (Sde Teiman): Testified to PCHR that while he and other captives were being raped with bottles by soldiers, there was "also a dog behind us, as if the dog was raping us," serving as a form of extreme psychological and physical humiliation. 7) 48-year-old Detainee (Al-Shifa/Military Outpost): Reported witnessing a dog maul another man’s genitals until the victim bled to death in his arms. 8) The Committee to Protect Journalists and Middle East Monitor have collected dozens of testimonies from journalists who reported being subjected to "dog attacks" and sexualized torture during their detention. I talked to two guards in Sde Teiman, on more than one occasion. One had seen this happen and said it was too awful to talk about. The other said that he had heard about it from others and believed it was true. This happened. This is happening still. The evidence is too overwhelming.
