Will we hire engineers in the future? Prompting is thinking. The sharper your thoughts, the better the prompts, the better the outputs. Engineering and design are headed into a world where most of the output is produced by prompting, if not all. The way we interview engineers has already been trending in this direction. At Vercel, we don’t care if you memorized every API and module. When we look at your coding, we assess the quality of your thinking and collaboration. It’s more so an evaluation of your “thinking tokens” or reasoning trace. In fact, the more you expose it, walking through how you backtrack, pivot, adjust, consult, the better signal we get. My prediction is that the demand for great thinkers will remain unabated. It’s unclear if we’ll call them engineers or if it’ll matter, because these people will have a lot of full stack impact on the whole business, as they’ll have access to prompt their way to any successful outcome.

I've built 7 profitable apps without writing a single line of code first My secret? ASO keyword research Building my 8th app now, and here's my exact process: 1. Find keywords with high search volume + low competition • Look for keywords with >30 popularity but <50 difficulty • Use tools like AppFigures, Sensor Tower, or Astro • Target keywords that show clear user intent (what problem they're solving) 2. Spy on the top-ranking apps • Download the top 3 apps for each keyword • Document their core features (only what matters) • Note their monetization strategy • Identify what's missing or could be improved 3. Design your app based on gaps • Create a feature list that addresses competitor weaknesses • Focus on the 1 core feature users actually care about • Skip the "nice-to-haves" for v1 • Design UI that emphasizes this core feature 4. Build your ASO strategy before coding • Create app store screenshots highlighting key features • Write description using your target keywords naturally • Plan your category placement strategically • Prepare a launch strategy targeting those keywords 5. Only then start building • Focus on 1 core feature first • Skip anything not directly tied to your keywords • Build for the specific user searching those terms • Launch fast, even if it's not perfect Most app developers build first, then try to find users I find the users first, then build exactly what they're searching for That's why my apps get downloads from day one No marketing budget needed
