Seems very bad that the pork industry and the Trump admin are trying to ban basic animal cruelty laws. Some states banned inhumane practices like gestation crates & overcrowding. They're trying to sneak the 'Save Our Bacon Act' into the farm bill to kill those state-level bans.

Sent another 64 ETH to the Animal Welfare Fund. I encourage others to think and act more in support of our non-human cousins too! The extreme suffering we're imposing on them in the billions is not something we talk about often, but it continues to be one of the larger blights on humanity. And I'm getting optimistic that this century we can finally end it. Farming practices are improving, synthetic alternatives are improving. Also, in my recent experience, good old low-tech vegetarian and vegan food has improved massively worldwide over the last ten years; I encourage anyone who has tried it long before and given up to take second look; there are far more healthier and tastier options today than the "pasta and salad" you would often get ten years ago.

Oh, maybe another problem is that it's more risky to eat raw egg whites in the US compared to UK? It's hard to make Tiramisu without raw egg whites, maybe there's a way to do this if you whip it with hot sugar syrup?

Complain about the rates if you want, but it makes very good sense for property tax to be a tax on the value of the property! Basing it on purchase price would create all kinds of crazy incentives...people who bought a house 30 years ago would be paying property tax on a "$20,000 home" so the entire city budget would be funded by young people edging their way into their first home, which would be insane.

I don't think people fully appreciate what a disaster DC's entire affordable housing program is. To start with, it is absurd that we have a chronic problem with people not paying rent when there are 27,000 households registered for the IZ lottery...
