He was born free, but chose servitude. A people liberated in 1960 should never return to chains. Yet in 2026, this clan chose enslavement over freedom.

An Endless International “Begging” Cycle Again and Again Somalia’s ambassador to the UK stated: “We are more than willing to discuss bilateral relations between Somalia and Israel.” The Somalian government has consistently pursued bilateral engagement with Israel, despite its stated political positions on Somaliland–Israel relations being framed as legally and morally principled within official policy narratives. Beyond public messaging, Somalia has reportedly engaged in repeated diplomatic outreach toward Israel, involving sustained political and administrative efforts to establish formal channels of engagement. Recent media exposure reflects continued attempts to reinforce this diplomatic direction. However, Somalia’s limited institutional capacity and ongoing governance constraints are often cited as factors restricting its ability to maintain fully structured, independent, and stable state-to-state diplomacy. In this framing, its external relations are frequently viewed as asymmetrical and not fully meeting the conditions for equal diplomatic engagement, with a strong reliance on support, assistance, and aid rather than balanced reciprocity. This dynamic is often linked to dependence on external actors in security, economic management, and aspects of diplomatic coordination. In contrast, Somaliland’s comparatively stable institutional framework and functioning governance structures are presented as enabling factors behind its growing international recognition by Israel and expanding engagements with partners including the United States, the UAE, and Taiwan. From this analytical perspective, differences in institutional capacity and state functionality are seen as key variables shaping patterns of international engagement and broader regional recognition dynamics.

On behalf of the gov't and people of the Republic of Somaliland, we proudly celebrate our Independence Day on June 26. As the first country in East Africa to attain independence from colonial rule and the fifteenth African country overall to do so, (1/2)
