i’m really confused about how laws work here. if i tried to go camping in a public park tonight i’d likely be told i cannot, because it’s illegal. i’ve been cleared out of parks for stargazing after hours. a judge just ruled that berkeley has to give homeless people larger sidewalk spaces for camping than was previously determined. who qualifies for this? could i go stake out a piece of sidewalk?
Sanjana Friedman@metaversehell

Just learned the ‘Berkeley Homeless Union’ has been suing the city of Berkeley to prevent it from clearing a homeless encampment infested with what sounds like a kind of plague (“leptospirosis,” a deadly bacteria spread by rats)

@SandyofCthulhu Earth's mean radius is 6371 km. The Kola Borehole went down 12.262 km. This story therefore suggests that the earth is around 99.8% hell by volume. I don't think the people repeating the story have thought through the theological implications of it very well.

There's a super neat totally unsubstantiated legend that when the Soviets dug the Kola mohole they abandoned it because when they lowered a microphone into the hole, it picked up screams and moans, and people pleading and cursing in a variety of languages. I have had no fewer than three Baptists tell me this story independently. So hey why not believe it since I can't actually confirm it one way or the other?

I think I need to be fired. I've done 232 dry sauna sessions. Last week I confirmed, for the first time (by swallowing a pill), whether the core temperature threshold that gates the primary cellular repair mechanism was actually being reached in my protocol. The threshold is 102.2°F (39.0°C). For me, that takes 33 min at 195°F. With ice on face and neck, 38min. My standard daily protocol was 20 minutes. That wasn’t enough time to get my core body temp to the heat shock threshold of 102.2°F (39.0°C). Causing me to ask, did I just waste 77 hours and 20 min? It's possible my heat threshold has increased and the heat shock protein release was happening previously, but I doubt it based upon the subjective feeling I now understand as being 102.2F (39.0°C). It’s brutal. For these 232 sessions, I measured the temperature of the air, humidity, duration, frequency, the sweat output, blood biomarkers, vascular response, toxin clearance and fertility markers. There is no human body in history that has been more measured in sauna than mine. Nevertheless, I did not confirm the one number that determines whether the primary mechanism was activating. My goal wasn't to be a sauna bro. It was to saunamaxx. I was doing the former while thinking I was doing the latter. I rest my case. I should probably be fired.

spent months futzing around with lifestyle habits + supplements + 8sleep to no avail, and then finally asked a doctor if there is any side-effect free miracle drug to fix this. turns out there is and im cured. claude never suggested it. i am setting my agi timelines back a year. i am so, so, so grateful for the pharmaceutical industry. raise the drug prices
owl@owl_posting

im yo-yo'ing back between 5.5 hours of sleep for 3 days, 7.5 hours of sleep for 1 day, and then repeat i have discussed this at length with claude and am doing basically all its supplement + most of its lifestyle recommendations. what else do i do? do i buy an 8sleep?

"Monkey liver" is interesting. The flesh & organs of "catarrhines" (monkeys, apes) are actually the only safe red meat to eat after contracting the tickborne alpha gal syndrome. The problem is that eating primate is also probably the "taboo" foodway with the most consistent historical record of horrific cosmic punishments: the spread of ebola, kuru, possibly HIV, etc. have all been hypothesized to have bushmeat involvement (to say nothing of the TCM side.) But if you are a Mikhaila P. style obligate carnivore diehard and you come down with the increasingly-prevalent AGS ... what other choice do you have?

THIS IS HAPPENING! now i need your help. i’m looking to source a couple amazing panelists. please tag people you think are amazing and fit the bill!! ideally: - a bit into their careers/life - have crossed between industries (outside of tech too), like art, music, science, research, food, etc. - insane side quests count too! it’s going to be mid-late april at @NotionHQ !!! dream venue. stay tuned for the luma if you want to attend :)
adel 🌟@adelwu_

i want to host an event for people confused about their career path. for the multi-hyphenates who don’t know what to pursue, bc there’s too many things. i left my last job not knowing what was next, only that i didn’t want to keep doing what i was doing. when i pivoted from eng to growth, the most eye opening conversations were those with people 2-3 years ahead of me who went through the same struggle. they could actually resonate with the existential stress i felt navigating the process. who would be interested? i’d love to put together a panel of people with amazing multi-faceted careers and took sabbaticals/breaks to figure things out!

The American Academy of Dermatology's official recommendation for wart removal at home is unironically "cover them with duct tape for like 2 months" Nobody really knows why this works. Current theory is - Duct tape keeps the area moist and allows blood to flow through the otherwise hard outer shell of the wart so your immune system can deal with the virus There are cases where putting duct tape over a foot-wart apparently leads to warts elsewhere on their body decreasing in size too, which implies some sort of systemic immune response getting kickstarted One of the rare cases where I actually have no idea which group would've discovered this solution It definitely wasn't doctors, but it doesn't clock as originating from bodybuilders or trans people either Maybe random dads??

It goes without saying that this isn’t scientifically accurate, but it is true that certain foods alter the way we smell (spices and alliums like onion and garlic high among them). But in studies people have been shown—somewhat surprisingly—to rate the smell of people who’ve eaten large quantities of garlic as more pleasant. A diet rich in fruit and vegetables tends to improve the way people smell, while red meat and processed carbohydrates encourage corynebacteria, which causes sweat to develop an unpleasant, cheesy smell to many noses. So it’s not true that you are what you eat, but you may well smell like what you eat…or smoke, as the case may be.

We won $10K at MIT and had to figure out how to start a chemical company with it. So I made a spreadsheet. Every single application of hydrogen peroxide, sorted by dollar per gallon. Industrial use? Low margin. Semiconductors? Long sales cycle. Sensory deprivation tanks? Float spa owners pay premium for clean peroxide and there were hundreds of them. I cold-called every one I could find and sent them our MIT pitch video. Within weeks we had recurring orders. Our PVC reactor held together with twist ties was cash flowing $10K a month selling "bioperoxide" to float spas. That's how a multibillion dollar chemicals company got its first customers.
