Reality: Your starter home is purchased at the top of the market. Buy it, stay there 5 years, your equity has gone up, but the value has been a rollercoaster. You sell it, make a tiny profit (which is eaten up by your real estate agent and random fees) and move on. In the future, you know buying a home is not an investment for profit, it's an investment for your family's wellbeing.

Friendly reminder: Your starter home has one job: Get you in the game. Buy it, stay there 5-7 years, fix it up, build equity. Sell it, make ~$130,000 & get something nicer. …Pay 0% tax on the profit👌🏻

Moved my retirement accounts to Robinhood last year bc of their asset match (like 3% match on all assets or something like that?) But it’s incredibly annoying that you have to scroll past prediction markets (read: sports betting) to see portfolio positions. The forced sports betting is gross.

Genuinely seems Trumps presidency is completely falling apart. Basic government services aren’t getting executed. He’s stuck in a quagmire in the Middle East. Job growth is negative and inflation is accelerating. Gas is 4-5 dollars a gallon. What a mess

TSA is quoting 3 hours for both pre check and general, they have turned off the signs that show wait time because they can’t track the lines when they’re into baggage claim. Clear is closed. This is ATL at 5am

@HankFrank It’s also extremely hard being an ex athlete. So many people I know were great athletes through HS or college then take a few years off of anything serious. They expect to jump right back in where they left off but now they’re pushing 30 and haven’t run in years

Nobody tells new runners that the first 6 months are going to suck. Everything hurts, nothing feels good, and you’re convinced you’re not built for it. Then somewhere around month 7 or 8 something clicks and you can’t imagine your life without it. Most people quit at month 4.

@uncledoomer Same dudes who misinterpret their buddies with kids having fun visiting as them regretting their choice. It’s fun to go party in the city for a night but I wouldn’t trade my family for it

it's not their fault, but a lot of people got one shotted by media that convinced them that the partying that they do in their 20s was the end, rather than the means by which they meet a mate, and enter into the phase of family formation in their 30s.

@Bulkington___ Fall of Civilizations podcast covers exactly this idea. It’s super interesting how demoralizing it must have been to live in the shadows of a society that you lost the technology to replace

Always fascinated how people in the middle ages for hundreds of years just lived amongst the ever decrepitating Roman ruins. It was just a part of daily life for them.

How do people in the suburbs genuinely look forward to Friday night on the couch, Saturday morning at Costco, and call that a weekend? Like you really moved out of the city just to LARP as your parents at 34?

Guy on here said you shouldn't sleep with ear plugs in because you can't protect your family. What a joke. If you live in an area where wearing earplugs is a threat to your family's safety, it is your duty as a man to make some more money and move your family to a safer area.
Nick Huber@sweatystartup

A guy on here said he sleeps better with earplugs in. What a joke. It is your duty as a man to hear what is going on in your home and protect your family at all costs. If your sleep suffers it’s because you don’t know how to sleep. Terrible habits.

@indexnforgetit You can grow wealth and build income at the same time. Cash flow gives you options along the way. Why limit those options by ignoring dividends?

This is a common, very bourgeois error about the purpose of private school. The purpose of private school is not academic achievement. It is to establish a child within a social network of contacts that will help their career and marriage prospects for life.
Nick Maggiulli@dollarsanddata

Private schools are the most expensive placebo in America. Nowhere else will you pay $250k+ for something that has so little impact on school achievement. My latest on why private school isn't worth the cost: ofdollarsanddata.com/why-private-sc…

The Green Party have proposed a policy where the highest paid person in a company could only earn 10x as much as the lowest, currently the ratio is over 1000x in some companies. Do you agree?

Unpopular Opinion: Taking less risk when you’re young is often a better path to financial freedom than taking more. When you invest early time and compounding do most of the heavy lifting. The earlier you start, the less risk you have to take to reach the same outcome.
