Learning via my comments that a ton of people are under the impression that solar panels pollute the land they are on. This seems to be completely fake but a lot of people believe it anyway. Like where would the pollution even come from?

No. Farmers produce value. UBI doesn’t. It’s really that simple. In general, adults should have to produce work for money, absent bona fide disability. That’s was why WPA and PWA were superior to LBJ’s “Great Society” socialism. Unearned money breeds all sorts of social ills and corruption.

Being against wasteful subsidies and inefficient welfare programs is a cornerstone of rural and conservative beliefs right up until the subsidy and inefficient welfare is for farms. If the “rural lifestyle” can only exist via subsidy let’s just do UBI payments and call it a day.
John E Gatliff II@LawyerGatMAREJD

@jasonc_nc @AndyMasley Just say you hate agriculture and the rural lifestyles based on it. It will save a lot of words.

@EckerMichiel @AndyMasley It can be but im practice it doesnt make sense for a utility scale solar project that is 1000+ acres. Goats and sheep also dont eat the weeds which is the whole point of the grazing

@AndyMasley + When placed with a bit of spacing apart or higher up, the land can still be used for grazing. Especially useful in areas that tend to be dry and thus the shade helps both the grass and animals.

My contribution to the solar/farm discourse is that solar panels capture about 100x as much usable energy from the sun as corn grown for ethanol, if you include the energy cost of growing corn. Ethanol corn is 40% of all US corn and is literally just there to capture energy from the sun. We have a way of doing that much more efficiently now!

Graham Platner is the ultimate example of identity politics. He has zero experience and several giant blaring red flags, but he he has a certain aesthetic that leftists and white liberals are going absolutely feral over nowadays. Told you all. Now say 25% of America's crop production has reduced yields. Another 10-20% are bankrupt. Another 25% can't afford the fuel required to farm. Now....heat waves this year. Crop destruction and high water usage. 1930...it shall be interesting to watch repeat.

1 in 4 farmers state they have not been able to secure fertilizer due to prices under Trump, which will lead to food shortages and continuing rising prices in 2026.

The US counties with the lowest average IQs tend to be located in the Deep South, Southwest, and where Indian reservations are located. The highest-IQ counties tend to be in New England, Midwest/Plains, and transplant-heavy scenic Mountain West.

My friends at Austin Sunshine Camps sent an email saying they are unable to comply with the broadband internet service requirement now required by state law. Most rural camps will not be able to comply. Seems this law was rushed thru post Mystic - May 2, 2026 Dear Austin Sunshine Camps Stakeholders, As we are preparing to once again welcome campers for the upcoming summer, we want to share an important update with you. A recently enacted Texas law requires licensed summer camps to maintain broadband fiber internet service on their property. As the law is written, camps that cannot meet this specific connectivity standard are considered out of compliance, even if they already have strong safety systems and reliable emergency communications in place. The intent behind this law is to protect children, and that intent is one we share completely. The safety and well-being of our campers is always at the heart of everything we do. The challenge is that many camps across rural Texas, including our Lake Travis Camp location, simply do not have access to broadband fiber infrastructure. In those locations, this requirement cannot be met because the infrastructure does not yet exist. As a result, camps that are otherwise well-staffed, well-prepared, and deeply committed to safety are facing an implementation challenge in areas where infrastructure is not yet available. This has nothing to do with unwillingness or delay. The required infrastructure has simply not been built in many rural communities. There are proven and reliable ways to maintain strong internet access and emergency communications at camp today, including satellite service, cellular systems, and layered backup tools.  Our Lake Travis Camp currently has internet service through Starlink and T-Mobile, as well as cell phone service.  These systems are used every day by hospitals, schools, churches, ranches, and first responders in communities like ours. While they support the same safety goals, they are not currently permitted as alternatives under the statute.   Because of this, nearly twenty Texas summer camps, including ours, are working together to seek temporary relief while a practical and reasonable solution is considered. Our goal is simple. We want to align with the intent of the law, ensure camper safety, and continue operating within the realities of rural Texas. At this time, we are planning for a full summer season. Staff is being hired and trained. Cabins are being prepared. Programs are moving forward with care and excitement. If anything changes, you will hear directly from us, promptly and clearly. For stakeholders who feel compelled, you can help by reaching out to our representatives about this matter and sharing what camp means to you.   • State Representatives: Vikki Goodwin, Email Form and Ellen Troxclair, Email Form • State Senators: Sarah Eckhardt, Email Form and Donna Campbell, Email Form • Or, look up who represents you here. Personal stories help others understand the role camp plays in building confidence, friendships, resilience, independence, and a lifelong connection to the outdoors. For generations, Texas families have trusted camps like ours with what matters most, their children. We take that responsibility seriously and remain committed to transparency, safety, and doing everything possible to welcome campers this summer. Thank you for your understanding and your continued trust. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions. With gratitude, Erica Blue Chief Executive Officer Austin Sunshine Camps

As a Midwestern account, I must strongly disagree. Region 27 - the "Midwest" seems to be a catchall category from someone who knows nothing about it. Southern IN & IL have very little in common with Northern MN, much more in common with KY right across the Ohio River.

Look, pro-homeschooling people are piling on this guy but he's not wrong at all. I know of families who are straight-up failing to teach their children beyond a 2nd-grade education. Like 16-year-old kids who don't know what the Capital of the US is, have never heard of Toronto, and could not perform a basic algebra problem. While it's true that there are many excellent homeschooling families whose instruction far exceeds that of any public school, the fact is that the American system of "school your kids however you want" does also yield a lot of severely stunted kids who get stuck playing "catch-up" for the rest of their lives. My wife was homeschooled, we might homeschool, I'm not averse to the practice per se, but it's a fact that there's a whole world of multi-generational homeschoolers who are not and will not rise above a 2nd or 3rd grade education level by their own volition. Should the state intervene in these cases? I dunno, the answer to the question is not as "easy" as many make it out to be. The idea of barely getting through 'Mary Had a Little Lamb' at the age of 16 should be appalling, and it IS happening in some American homeschooler families.
Just Jim@JimsTweets

Do Homeschool kids just like, not have to take tests or exams or get grades? How does the government know if the child is actually getting an education and not just like, being neglected
