Not a good start to your journey - posting something that can be interpreted in different ways and may come across as bad for the Church. If you had any issue, or doubt, you should be humble and ask the people in the Church or the person who handed you the paper, if not satisfied ask the OCIA director, if not satisfied, ask the priest, if not satisfied ask the Bishop. Or if you’re struggling, be honest say it so that you can’t cover the cost to the people in your Church, for sure people and the Church will help you out.

@CatholicSOTC The greater question is whether the Mass itself reflects the New Testament. Hebrews teaches that Christ offered one sufficient sacrifice for sins, once for all (Heb. 10:10–14). Nothing can add to or repeat that perfect offering.

Cardinal Alfredo Ottaviani, then head of the Holy Office, exercised the careful doctrinal vigilance expected of his office. Years later, Archbishop Karol Wojtyła of Kraków, who knew the original Polish writings and the devotion’s deep roots among the faithful, initiated a careful theological investigation. With the approval of the Holy Office, he advanced the cause. In April 1978 the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith lifted the earlier restrictions after reviewing the authentic documents. Six months later, that same Archbishop was elected Pope John Paul II. He would later canonize St. Faustina and establish Divine Mercy Sunday for the universal Church. What happened was not a victory of one side over another. It was the Church’s ordinary process of discernment: caution when materials were incomplete, then joyful approval once the truth was clarified. Several U.S. Catholic bishops have recently strengthened diocesan funeral guidelines to ensure stricter fidelity to the Church’s Order of Christian Funerals. The move comes in response to growing departures from traditional norms, especially regarding the handling of cremated remains, the timing and content of words of remembrance, and the proper place for visitation. One of the most detailed responses comes from Bishop Thomas John Paprocki of Springfield, Illinois. In a recent pastoral letter and video message, he outlined new policies now in effect: ✅ Visitation will no longer be permitted in the church on the day of the Funeral Mass. The Vigil belongs the night before. ✅ Eulogies are not allowed during any of the official funeral rites. Only brief “words of remembrance” focused on the deceased’s faith may be offered and these must be submitted for approval in advance and read only by a priest or deacon. ✅ Cremated remains must be kept intact and interred as soon as possible (ordinarily within 30 days). Scattering ashes, dividing them among relatives, keeping them at home, or placing them in jewelry is strictly prohibited. Bishop Paprocki emphasized that these norms are not meant to burden families, but to protect the dignity of the funeral rites and the Church’s belief in the resurrection of the body. Other dioceses across the United States are implementing similar clarifications as irregular practices continue to increase. The Church’s funeral liturgy is not primarily about celebrating a person’s life on earth. It is a prayer for the deceased, an act of hope in the resurrection, and a proclamation of faith in eternal life.
