Updated preprint! Here, we identify an SREBP-dependent fatty acid sensing metabolic switch in Drosophila, enabling dramatic metabolic rewiring within adipose tissue that boosts carbohydrate metabolism in the absence of fat. Read more here: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Excited to share new preprint from the lab. Here we show that Pex30 reticulon homology domains generate membrane curvature and increase membrane thickness at ER subdomains that affects LD biogenesis. biorxiv.org/content/10.648…

1/3 Thrilled to see our paper led by Kirandeep Deol is out! We used CRISPR screens to uncover regulators of the ferroptosis suppressor FSP1. key discovery: vitamin B2 metabolism stabilizes FSP1 via FAD, revealing a new way vitamins regulate ferroptosis. nature.com/articles/s4159…

Thrilled to have contributed to this work led by Jesse Garcia Castillo during his PhD at UC Berkeley w/ Michel DuPage. Targeting FSP1 in T cells boosts anti-tumor immunity by relieving Treg suppression, revealing a new immunomodulatory therapeutic axis. science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

With so many great reviews on LDs already out, do we need another? Sarah @cohenlaboratory & I were approached by @NatRevMCB to organize a review on LD heterogeneity and inter-organelle contacts...topics often in reviews, but not a focus. Fun project! nature.com/articles/s4158…

Thrilled to share our work showing that the bridge lipid transport protein ATG2A transfers diacylglycerol (DAG), and TAG/PA, from the ER to LDs, thereby recruiting DGAT2 to drive local TAG synthesis, promoting LD expansion while protecting ER membranes. nature.com/articles/s4159…

DDHD2, tied to hereditary spastic paraplegia, acts as both a triglyceride lipase and transacylase. While #lipiddroplets don't accumulate in neurons, this raises key questions about fatty acid content and LD dynamics in neurons. 👏 Canals & @airola_lab! pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…

David Baker, the 2024 #NobelPrize laureate in chemistry, has achieved the seemingly impossible feat of building entirely new kinds of proteins. In recent years, one incredible protein creation after the other has emerged from Baker’s laboratory. They range from new nanomaterials where up to 120 proteins spontaneously link together (see animation) to proteins that function as a type of molecular rotor. Excited to share our new preprint led by Kirandeep Deol! Genetic screens uncover mechanisms regulating FSP1 abundance in cancer. Vitamin B2 metabolism promotes FSP1 stability via FAD synth / binding, further linking nutrient metabolism to #ferroptosis. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

If you're tired of AI and stuff...we published CRISPR-based protocols that you can actually use to delete alpha-synuclein (~100% efficiency) or knock it into endogenous locus (~53% eff) in cultured neurons: star-protocols.cell.com/protocols/4339
