Don’t get it twisted. Buying a business is the easy part. Servicing the SBA loan that came with it? That’s the job now. The seller didn’t have that payment. You do. Protect your cash. You’ll need it more than you think. Ask me how I know.

@SuccessWithJake Cash flow is the most important thing for young businesses. Every decision the first few years should be made with the cash flow statement in front of you.

@SuccessWithJake IMO I still think people don’t really know what it is. I was watching a podcast and two guys were calling a vending machine business passive income. It’s only passive if you’re doing zero work.

She named her price. I opened her P&L. I was negotiating to buy a local service company. Her number: revenue-based. Big. Good business. Real customers. But the earnings didn’t back the price. She was selling revenue. I was buying profit. I countered with seller financing, priced on what the business actually made, not what it grossed. She said no. Price is what people want. Value is what the numbers say. I don’t make the rules.

@SuccessWithJake My grandson wanted to sell one of his $500K puppies on Craig’s list. In the end, he was willing to do a trade for two $250K kittens, but otherwise no cash buyers. It’s a tough market out there.

@ClintFiore For sure. I could see that. It was definitely disappointing We had several meetings and it seemed so promising And then….. it was so so far from reality it literally died instantly

Southwest went 47 consecutive years without a losing year - the longest streak in airline history. Mentioned up in Good to Great as one of the great American businesses. Now it feels like a punchline.

@SuccessWithJake I've ran into similar lately while looking at off-market RE. If the numbers don't work, I politely decline and ask them to keep me in touch if they change their mine. We all have dreams.

@SuccessWithJake @girdley Now we will see how Q2 went in a few days, but record revenue seems to imply customers are still flying them just as much as before (need to account for inflation in prices etc etc - but still, believe this holds true).
