We’re being invaded by people who don’t believe in bitcoin. Every sat in the hands of a bitcoiner increases the security and functionality of the system.

@PAGJ69 @PeterMcCormack Thanks for taking the time to elaborate on this. I think I understand the point they would be making now and what’s wrong with it; cradle to grave emissions just isn’t a very meaningful stat and carbon/KWH is a much more useful way for us to access environmental impact.

@SupportTheBit @PeterMcCormack Excellent point. I was saying that the anti-crowd says nuclear is more carbon emitting cradle to grave while the truth is that coal emits ~800g carbon/KWH, gas is ~490, utility solar ~40, hydro ~24, wind and nuclear ~12.

@PeterMcCormack loved the show on nuclear energy with @PAGJ69 but when asked what the anti-nuclear critiques would be, he mentioned that it’s dirtier cradle-to-crave but the conversation moved on without explanation of that. Would love just a little more detail if possible

@Noahpinion Largely accurate, but there is some actual technical innovation with bitcoin. Open access/use database entries that people (doesn’t have to be everyone, just 2+) regard as being valuable is truly an innovation. Some code now is in and of itself money, or at least valuable

The two biggest econocults of our time are Bitcoin maximalism and MMT. The former is just redirected goldbuggery, while the latter is just rebranded 70s-era macro-leftism. Both will fail, and Keynesian economics will once again emerge supreme.

In 2011 when Gox was hacked & BTC market-dumped to a penny, that was the entire ecosys. In 2012 when pirateat40 blew up, that swung the market 50% in a few days. 1/

@dankrad I feel like its kinda a good thing culturally tho. Like a loose form of maximalism, it (hopefully) indicates to new comers that they need to have a high pass filter and view everything as a scam until proven otherwise. In a space with no safety rails, this seems like a good thing

One of the problem with crypto culture is that we call projects scams and ponzis all the time. But a bad or poorly executed project is not a scam. Warnings about projects that deserve to be called a scam and ponzi, like Terra, are drowned out in the noise.

1/ I am convinced the disillusioned young men that will lose everything in the upcoming cryptocrash will turn to fascism, not socialism, as they look for someone to blame. To them, crypto is a way out of the American trap of nonexistent wages for a generation.

Cryptocurrencies are such an obvious scam and it’s good they are crashing.

With Solana going down today and Ethereum transfers spiking to $700+ in fees, yeah maybe it is good that bitcoin exists and is simple as fuck.

@VAL9THOU @jasonhickel Correct. It was a team effort between you, me, Twitter and many others. This exchange, these tweets do not get brought into existence without that team effort. It seems that you’re trying to collapse everything to monocausal relationships which just isn’t how the world works

People often assume that capitalism is defined by "markets and trade". But markets and trade existed for thousands of years before capitalism. Capitalism is only 500 years old. So what is distinctive about this economic system? Three things (well, more, but three for now):

@VAL9THOU @jasonhickel Thing Y is not solely responsible. Thing Z (me) was also necessary for thing X to exist. But the absence of thing Y or thing Z means the house doesn’t exist. Literally Y + Z = X. They both produced X

@VAL9THOU @jasonhickel I mean I wouldn’t have built the house otherwise. The house would not exist without your economic system. If thing X (the house) would not exist without thing Y (your economic system) then I don’t really get how you can say that thing Y didn’t cause (produce) thing X

@VAL9THOU @jasonhickel If you make a mess, that’s your responsibility. If you build a sandcastle, everyone would agree that it’s your sand castle not someone else’s and they don’t have the right to knock it down without good reason. If you form an idea, you can patent it i.e. formally own it
