I am pleased that City Council has approved the mid-cycle budget adjustments. This will allow us to further invest in public safety, as we conclude the current four-year budget cycle and prepare for the 2027 to 2030 service plan and budget. Thank you to Council and the @CPS_Commission for your support. We remain committed to advancing public safety for all Calgarians.

🔵 CHARGES LAID 🔵 We have charged 2 men with drug distribution & exporting offences after 60 kilograms of cannabis resin was discovered in luggage at the Calgary International Airport last week. 📍 On Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, at about 8 a.m., Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) called for assistance after opening 4 checked bags that had been flagged during routine x-ray screening. Inside the bags, screening officers discovered vacuum-sealed packages wrapped in blankets, which raised further concerns. Subsequent testing by law enforcement confirmed the presence of drugs. The contents of the suitcases, believed to be hashish, weighed a total of 60 kilograms with an estimated street value of $1.2 million. Working with airport staff, we identified the luggage destination & reviewed CCTV footage to locate the suspects. Both men were arrested without incident when they boarded a Vancouver-bound aircraft. We believe the suspects planned to travel to Sri Lanka using connecting flights. 📌 Kody Carl KLIMOVE, 27 & Corey Daniel AIRHART, 34, were each charged with 1 count of possession for the purpose to distribute & 1 count of possession with intent to export. They are both scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026. We want to thank our partners at the Calgary International Airport & CATSA for their vigilance & assistance with this case. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police by calling the non-emergency line. 🌐 newsroom.calgary.ca/two-men-charge…

🏅 When the drive, discipline & teamwork of sport meet a desire to find your purpose, becoming a police officer just makes sense. The physical & mental demands of competitive sport prepare athletes for a career in policing. Whether it's pushing through adversity, leading with integrity or showing up for your team — these same qualities are vital on the frontline. This video features CPS officers who once wore the @UCalgary Dinos jersey & now serve with pride in uniform. It highlights the transition from sport to service & the pursuit of purpose beyond the game. 📣 Do you know an athlete who would make a great police officer? We recognize that many Calgarians continue to feel concerned about safety in the downtown core. Despite sustained enforcement efforts, including an intensive 8-month initiative earlier this year, both the perception & reality of social disorder & crime remain pressing challenges. Today, we are reaffirming our commitment to public safety & community well-being through Safer Calgary – Operation Order. This initiative focuses proactive enforcement in high-priority downtown areas & builds on insights gained from Safer Calgary - Operation CERTainty & other collaborative efforts over the past 2 years. Operation Order will deploy targeted patrols, strengthen proactive enforcement measures & prioritize connecting vulnerable individuals with appropriate supports. Arrests will occur when necessary & will be carried out with dignity, compassion & care. Individuals experiencing vulnerability will be offered pathways to services, not simply processed through the system. Our approach centres on supportive accountability & includes culturally-appropriate supports & health professionals to ensure vulnerable individuals get help in the moment - whether it’s housing, addiction support, or access to ID & medical care.  We acknowledge that public safety is a shared responsibility & our dedication to our community is unwavering. Every person deserves to feel safe, respected & supported in their community. Together, we are strengthening our city—for a Safer Calgary. 🌐 More info: calgary.ca/cps/safer-calg…

🔵 CHARGES LAID 🔵 Investigators have charged 2 men with fraud after it is believed they stole over $66,000 from a local community non-profit. In 2022, 2 men approached the long-time directors of the Bowness Ratepayers Scout & Guide Hall Association, located at 8551 Bowness Road N.W., promising to rebrand the hall & to offer it as a community place to gather & hold events. Eager to pass on the day-to-day operations & excited about the prospect of expanding the community hall for their community, the 2 directors agreed. The 2 men then assumed the positions of managing the daily operations & one of the men appointed himself as the general manager without election or consent from the board. The 2 then rebranded the hall as BowCommons & hosted events under the name Discover Bowness. In April 2024, board members became concerned with the maintenance & deterioration of the hall & the transparency of financial documents, which led to the discovery of a significant amount of missing funds. Board members then contacted police to conduct an investigation. Investigators believe that between 2022 & 2024, the 2 men embezzled more than $66,000 by hosting events using organization funds without paying attributed fees, falsifying documents to obtain financial control & creating false receipts for services never rendered, which were then sent to fabricated email addresses & deposited into their personal bank accounts. On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, 2 men were arrested & charged in relation to the missing funds. 📌 Nathan Michael MIZERA, 41 & Joshua Tyler BREDO, 40, both of Calgary, have been charged with 1 count each of fraud over $5,000. They will next appear in court on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2025. 📣 Anyone with information about this or similar incidents is asked to contact police.
