Only 13% of dems (and 21% of indies) still have a favorable opinion of Israel. Good luck with your run!

Joe Walsh@WalshFreedom

I’ve only been a Democrat for 10 months. Maybe I’ll run for President as a Democrat if only to have ONE Democratic candidate who proudly calls himself a Zionist, who’s proudly pro-Israel, who proudly supports @AIPAC (an organization dedicated to strengthening American/Israeli relations), and who understands that the ONLY obstacle to peace in the Middle East has always been Arab/Muslim refusal to accept the state of Israel. I mean, the way things are going with the Democratic Party these days, I’m sure I’d own that pro-Israel lane.

This is one of the big lessons coming out of IL09 that progressives nationwide can learn from: do not meet with or talk to AIPAC, even if it's in an effort to keep them out of your race. Any interaction you have with AIPAC can and will be weaponized against you down the line.
Matthew Eadie@mattheweadie22

Daniel Biss on @BulwarkOnline today said meeting with AIPAC early in the #IL09 campaign was a "dumb idea" and recommends Dems don't do so going forward "I would recommend that candidates not meet with them because I don't think they can be trusted to operate in good faith"

@Kid_Cryptos @EmmaRJanssen He’s been raising for this race his entire career and had a war chest of almost $20M in his official campaign accountwhen it started. Most of the PAC money spent on his behalf was attacking Stratton. 1/2

@gnawbone_ @north0fnorth Simple - did you move to the area for the sole purpose of running for the seat? Then you might be a carpetbagger

as a city resident i’m really not happy about this, but due to gerrymandering il-09 is really a suburban district that happens to include some of the north side rather than a city district that crosses into the suburbs. there’s ~225k city residents & 515k suburbanites

the kat abughazaleh carpetbagger people make me feel crazy because she lives in the city, i would feel much more represented by someone who actually lives in chicago vs someone from out in the suburbs even if they’re technically in my district

Abughazaleh is getting crushed in the Cook and Lake County suburbs. Evidence that Mamdani style leftism only has purchase in deep-blue cities and college towns.

Unless Ezra Andres-Tysch can produce irrefutable evidence of the claim they just made this DNC paid wrecker needs to be ejected from DSA. Think whatever you want about whether Bushra should have dropped out, don’t lie on an a public platform in an attempt to destroy a comrade.

@truekino69420 @LeftyWinter AOC built deep relationships with community and local political organizations across the district during her campaign. She also lived in the district before announcing which helps with those things

Pro-tip: the fastest way to turn voters off of your candidate is telling voters that your candidate is entitled to their votes. This tweet is about Kat’s terminally online supporters

@benadrylnchill @Eyoyism They’re welcome to move and run. They’re not entitled to people’s votes and voters are free to judge them by whatever metric they want. I don’t vote for judges who were states attorneys. Is that fair? Doesn’t matter. It’s my decision. That’s democracy!

@Eyoyism I’m confused because it’s not the 1800s. I don’t really care about community ties or deep roots. The cool thing about America is you can move freely and run for office freely.

@mcmill2008 @Eyoyism Also looking at how Kat performed in the city, translate that to a district that’s 60-40 city as opposed to 60-40 suburbs… and yea I think she could have won

@kenvogel So I don’t think it’s that surprising that DEM voters don’t like AIPAC cause dems have been demonizing PACs and outside spending for a decade. What’s more surprising is how many Dem primary voters even know who AIPAC are in order to form an opinion. Voters are very highly engaged

A poll by Daniel Biss's campaign found 51% of Dem voters viewed AIPAC unfavorably vs 17% favorably in the Illinois district where he was running. So, by the time AIPAC started spending against him, he had decided to make the group a villain. It worked. nytimes.com/2026/03/19/us/…

@erichol59443359 @inboundike @peterawolf Democratic primary voters in Red areas are the most hardened of voters. They’re under constant siege and that pushes them left. Look at Delia’s first race and you’ll see that she won DuPage County by a larger margin than she won in Cook because of the same dynamic

Telling how none of these Abughazaleh postmortems is willing to acknowledge the main reason behind her loss (repeated by countless actual IL-09 voters On Here): that she was a carpetbagger with no ties to the district, and more than a supermajority of voters didn't like that.

@KaoticLeftist They literally called him a “dangerous detractor” and spent more money against him than Kat. They have to convince their donors that was money well spent so they’re going with “well it could’ve been worse”
