@ngschuNLU here's a take with the Unstable Compound leading. Does a this course benefit him because he's already so binary with his outcomes? Either striped or way off. Since small misses are just as penal as big misses, everyone is now playing the game he plays every week.

Also, respect to the era of working the weekly grind. Haas, Sluman, Payne, Hoch and Janzen come out as the top (bottom?) 5 in points/wins, meaning a big chunk of their points came from non-wins. All had career win % of 2.5% or less but are top-60 in points.

I should clarify, that's among players with multiple majors. Obviously a lot of guys who never got one who could be considered 'worse'

@DJPie Got me digging around the @DataGolf points list. Dividing points by starts, wins, majors is interesting. No surprise that Brooks comes out as the best Majors player (fewest points per major, meaning he got most his points from his majors), and Norman comes out as the worst

@DJPie @BigRandyNLU @ngschuNLU listening to the Genesis happy hour, and I’d like to present to you my “hit ‘em where it hurts” luxury tax structure for slow play.

@DJPie what I like about this is that the guys who are playing poorly on any given week can turn their focus to just moving things along and trying to regain some points. And the worst offenders - good players who take forever - are punished proportional to their earnings.

@DJPie @NoLayingUp my audacious plan to get real about eliminating slow play is to hit pros hard in their wallets, and do it publicly. Would the player council ever got for this? Probably not. But some of the fast playing mules could really stand to benefit.

@askgolfnut found your site and started exploring today. fascinating stuff! The fit tool has big (25+ yard) carry differences between players iron models, way more than mygolfspy’s MW data. Also, some of your longest are their shortest and viceversa. What might explain this?

@TStheKid23 @jonathanrwall @LukeKerrDineen @GolfGutsy Right, if you’re trying to play a fade you don’t want that. There are certainly tons of good players lining up square and hitting a little pull-fade. There are also lots of players hitting push fades, or fading it accidentally. Just clarifying that not all fades are closed faces

Been on a weird fasciation recently trying to find pro golfers who use midsize grips after somebody told me almost none of them do. So far, only found three: Koepka Rahm Finau Bryson obviously uses the massive grips. Xander used to use midsize, but doesn't anymore

@heathcummingssr As others have said, I think this is probably one of the problems. Not clear it actually does anything

What is the negative of the guardian cap? Is it heavier? There’s got to be something pretty significantly negative or everyone would wear it, right?

@LouStagner Any idea why the 5 hcp group has the lowest variance? 6.9 shots difference vs at least 10 strokes for everyone else. Knowing the size of Arccos’ data set, I doubt it’s a sample size issue. What else could be at play here?

Here is the break down of scoring average based on course rating. Course rating of 66 means 66.0 to 66.9 67 = 67.0 to 67.9 etc...

@NoLayingUp And then we got a nice long uninterrupted break and spent the whole thing watching the Cantlay group on the 9th green where the outcome was 100% predictable. Why show Burns 30 footer when Cantlay has 3 feet left? Why show Cantlay’s full routine over a 3 footer? THERE’S OTHER GOLF

@NoLayingUp Didn’t think we’d be trading that for the standard graphic. I can either know the score, or know who/what shot is being hit. Apparently not both.

Did you know... The only way to first contact the inside quadrant of the ball is with an open face. contrary to popular belief, it actually has nothing to do with path. This one is always controversial.

@SamHoppen Really interesting idea. Wondering if it might be a fun experiment to get some of your contacts in the industry to do their own ratings, and then re-run the sim. It seems to me like the most fragile part of the methodology is that it leans on your own personal ratings

Final note: I'm also approaching this with some humility. I'm confident in the process I used, but also know I'm not intimately familiar with every team's units so curious to learn more! Happy to engage in *good-faith* debates.

Here's v1 of my NFL team ratings! I explain the methodology in the next tweet but I'll be updating these throughout the preseason and regular season. Think this approach will help with my handicapping this season, particularly understanding team strengths vs. opp weaknesses.
