It was the same for us in Iraq and Afghanistan. How do you think those videos of IED’s hitting US and UK military vehicles and contractors convoys were produced. Were the reporters cameras just lucky to be in the right place at the right time ? No, those cameramen were paying the bad guys to get the footage and they were selling it to us. And it was allowed to go on throughout the conflicts there.

We are a US compan, in 2010 our CEO testified at a congressional hearing where he sounded the alarm about huge fiscal waste occurring on #USAID supported infrastructure projects in Afghanistan including on the the diesel fuel operated #TarakhilPowerPlant. We were engaged to work on #Tarakhil by the US prime contractors that #propublica and #iancarrollshow have highlighted. That plant should have cost approximately $130m USD at the time - but it ballooned to more than $335m USD! Worse still it hardly ever operated and rumors are that fuel for it was imported from Iran by the Afghan government. The testimony is in the URL here. You can see the other panel members squirming as they are questioned whilst our CEO Paul Hinks explains how institutionalized waste occurs. Although the committee was shocked by our CEO’s insights, absolutely nothing changed and USG waste continued unabated.

@TheMolnerati @elonmusk The entire system of contracting is broken and wasteful to the extreme. It's why Elon is saying that only a small fraction of the money is turned into real value on the ground. The rest is siphoned off in overheads, fees and sweetheart procurement.
English

@SymbionPower @elonmusk They should meet with you to hear how money was wasted when you were there. Hard to imagine the same games aren't still being played in various countries.

@SecRubio Please pay attention to the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

At today’s US-Kenya Business forum, Chairman Paul Hinks said: “As far as investment is concerned the center of gravity is shifting farther north, away from South Africa. Kenya is fast becoming the leading destination for US investors.”@USChamber @WilliamsRuto

President William Ruto didn’t allow NYC gridlocked traffic to delay him attending the US-Africa Investment Forum. Instead he left the cars behind & walked many city blocks to arrive on time. A clear display of Kenya’s new leadership. #UNGA2023 #RutoontheMarch @investafrica1

The journey of the last nine months to drive the deadline and commission this Trade Hub has had many hands of support. My wife and children endured my absence and long working hours to ensure we don’t fail. Patience not only joined me today but she prayed along with Dr. Muranga for the Hub effort to succeed. She wanted to see this come to life, and I thank her for not only being the rock of support she is to me now, 22 years of our friendship, but also for her prayer cover for the work I do for our country every day I step out of home.
My brothers Bratislav Stoiljkovic and Mark Pursey, who fully embraced my vision for our country’s economy and the drive for change, have been wonderful examples of what is best in humanity.
Our PACIED team, which I compel to work long hours and weekends, ensures my midnight calls are answered. They are great Ugandans, pushed beyond their comfort to deliver and have successfully accomplished a task.
The coffee consortium and its members, the 13 products’ leaders, who have believed again in the power of an idea and not blown it off like a candle, are a powerful statement of what it means when people are convinced of the righteousness of a cause.
Above all, the people and leadership of the Republic of Serbia have repeatedly received and welcomed me into their hotels, homes, and offices. Especially President Vucic and Minister of Trade Tomislav, who were kind to invite our President, allowing us two full days of intense work here. I thank them from the bottom of my heart.
At the beginning of October 2022, when I came here at the start of winter and ran on the streets, seeing hundreds of young people clutching cups of coffee and cigarettes in one hand, I had a gut feeling—our country would bring good coffee here and change the tastes of these consumers.
When I finally saw Chef Phillipe, the celebrated Michelin recommended five-star chef of the Balkans, in the Hub making a recipe out of the big Ugandan avocados and matooke, I was thankful that a small idea can take root when well-led. I believe, as President Museveni said, we are able to do more and open new gates of our exports and end the incompetence that has kept our growth in this sector down.
Thank you all. #PACEID
