@SyncPol

From Michael Liss. I write for @3QD. This month, FDR's battle with Hoover, and his first, extraordinary Fireside Chat, which turned around a bank run.

"The first great crisis of Roosevelt’s time had been joined, met, overcome. The effect was remarkable. The following day, Monday, March 13th, hundreds, perhaps thousands of customers returned to their banks—to put their cash and gold in, not take it out. 3quarksdaily.com/3quarksdaily/2…

Asked about Epstein document redactions that ID'ed victims, @DAGToddBlanche: "There were mistakes made." "When someone identified that there was a victim, we immediately pulled that document down, fixed it, and put it back up," he told reporters. @AGPamBondi: "We had 30 days to redact and release under the law that was passed. 3 million documents. If you stack those up, that's the height of the Eiffel Tower. No other administration. Under the Biden administration, they released zero documents. So we did our very best to comply with the law."

@HeerJeet Brutal set of comments...one likely to have been thought of before by a number of nations, but not spoken before. The answer in the past has been "imperfect but valuable" but now....Trump's strategy may have changed the balance.

@kylegriffin1 The DOJ works for Trump (you can tell from the Trump banners hung outside the building) and what this really should teach us is how dangerous is the power to prosecute, especially when used in bad faith. It's an example of why the Bill of Rights limits state action.

Smartmatic — the voting machine company at the heart of Trump's 2020 election lies — just accused the Trump Justice Department of vindictive and selective prosecution, saying that DOJ is now bringing a criminal case against them to further the Trump admin's baseless lies about that vote. washingtonpost.com/national-secur…

@jmart @EdwardGLuce This is interesting, but based on an understanding of the way politics usually works--every/anyAmerican President would suffer a huge hit for a failed initiative like Carter's. Everyone but Trump. Until proven otherwise, he defies political gravity.

.@EdwardGLuce “The first would be to send US or Israeli commandos to Isfahan to seize what remains of Iran’s 400kg stockpile of enriched uranium. Success would offer Trump a spectacular off-ramp. Indeed, the temptation of a lightning operation that upends the Taco narrative could be overpowering. Hovering over that is the ghost of Jimmy Carter. His failed 1980 Iranian hostage rescue mission helped to sink his presidency. Having so often announced the obliteration of Iran’s nuclear programme, Trump would not survive an equivalent setback

Was strolling into NY-12 for lunch, as one does when one lives in NY-10, and came across a Schlossberg canvassar pitching "Jack Kennedy for Congress".

france sending warships to the med/red sea and potentially toward hormuz — framing it as “strictly defensive” and about freedom of navigation. message: europe won’t be (completely) sidelined as us–israel–iran escalation hits shipping lanes and pushes oil toward $100+.

Crystal Ball is making an immediate rating change for Montana Senate from Safe Republican to Likely Republican, pending more information. Sometimes the voters react badly to these last-minute back room deals resulting in a switch of candidates without the public’s involvement.

@kkondik Interesting how we now automatically parse out substance from bombast in every Trump utterance--no matter how much it sounds like Captain Miles Gloriosus from "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum"
