@thefreightnerd I’m not sure about the large vs small broker. I cannot pay a $5m claim—we just go bankrupt. CHR can. In other words their real liability exposure cost per load is higher than ours.

OMG, this is the most pivotal moment in trucking history since Deregulation. It could be an extinction event for 30-50% of all freight brokers. Matt Lefler and I will be on the air at 11AM ET to discuss. Live, streaming on X.

@TCfromUB @dartinguphill No, our factoring RTS charge us %1.5 but this guys were sending emails that they could pay us directly and same day for a minimum fee. So we agreed for half of percent.

never haul for this company. they do not pay their freight bills. according to records they've always burned the carrier, allegedly. They post high rates because they know they won't pay, allegedly.

This truck almost took my life just now. I’m going 66 mph in my Ford bronco. This dude almost merged me into the median where the freeway meets the offramp to I215. I called the company and I swear as anything it sounds like somebody from a foreign country that’s been in the news lately. They’re begging me not to call the police! Yeah, police were called. This moron shouldn’t be driving a semi truck like it’s a Corvette.

@realkpr16 Well, safe spending is a narrower focus and not pertinent to the example investor I described still in plenty of earning years. You don’t have a model to say this is expensive so we’re going to underweight slightly?

@TCfromUB Generally speaking, when real yields are higher, investors need less risk to achieve the same level of safe spending as before. Therefore, if preferences remain unchanged, they should consider reducing their exposure to equities. So here’s an example…

Bernstein argues that the historical 4%-5% equity risk premium overstates future returns because about 1% came from rising valuations that won't repeat, bringing realistic expectations down to 3%-4% annually. Over 30 years, inflation-adjusted stock returns could range from -2.3% to +9.3% with 95% confidence. The Four Pillars of Investing, 2nd Ed. by William J. Bernstein

@realkpr16 So in what sort of circumstances or environments do you decide to deviate from your default portfolio allocation for the example investor - 35 yr old with 500k in cash. “Never” feels like a strange answer especially with how the initial tweet reads.

@TCfromUB I’m not sure how much confidence I’d give to the estimates. Conservatively expecting less than the 6-7% (US historical real) resonates with me. But not adjusting is still my default, unless you’re attempting to liability match, I think.

@realkpr16 Yeah capital gains is wild card. I guess I mean, how does the current landscape vs historical (which is what your tweet is about) shift the allocation of the same person (ie someone with 30yr horizon, sitting on 500k in cash) vs 5/10 yrs ago. Interesting to ponder

Leaning yes, assuming all else is equal. Real yield on TIPS are now more attractive than they were five years ago, raising questions about the risk level needed to cover future liabilities. My reluctance (right or wrong) to make a significant shift is due to avoiding capital gains and a new income stream from my career.

Is it just me or is everything both lower quality than ever and more expensive than ever? Today I had the privilege of: - Getting sprayed in the face with my “made in the USA extra durable” garden hose - Pulling weeds out of my “extra thick commercial grade” weed barrier - Watching my $300 aerator that took 4 hours to assemble get bent in half because I had to audacity to back up an inch - Pouring gasoline all over my shed as I filled my weedeater - Watching my $800 57 day old Milwaukee pole saw bite the dust I will pay whatever you charge just please someone - ANYONE make a decent product! (I also had to clean my mower engine today because it kept stalling but I don’t blame Toro it had just been a while)

@mhp_guy Scag, Ferris, exmark. Strange about the Milwaukee. But gas - stihl. Only use non-ethanol imo, you’ll never have issues. Buy from landscape suppliers. Flozone sprayers - prodiamine pre-emergent for beds/lawn as extra protectant. Always dropped you the hoselink (absolute 10/10).
