Alright this has been fun. I’m headed out for a weekend of seeing my favorite artist live for the 4th time and The Odyssey in 70mm IMAX. The thing that actually makes these guys mad is precisely that we are happy, whole people who are good at what we do & proud. Keep fighting!

“PDs should see their work as a solemn, regrettably necessary duty” like we’re all members of the Night’s Watch who should be dutiful but miserable and scorned.

What twitter thinks I do as a PD: open up Arkham Asylum like the joker using my powers of advanced misogyny What I actually do: cry over Taco Bell on my way from the courthouse to my office cause I’m tired & can’t fix the fact that my 14 y/o client doesn’t have a place to stay

All the public defenders crossed the street in front of me on their way to court, which is everyday, and I can assure you 99 % of them don't give a shit about how the general public feels about what they do and they are the first ones to save your ass when you end up in hot water with no judgment from them

People dunking on public defenders today on this hell site need to understand a few things: 1) Unlike me they don’t choose their clients. Bark at me if you don’t like my clients - not them. 2) They could make more money in private practice bit instead choose to work with indigent defendants. 3) Their job is to make the justice system work by jealously advocating for their clients. Without them, accused could not be tried. Want to see the system grind to a halt, see what would happen if PD’a walked off the job. 4) Many PD’s I know end up paying monetarily and emotionally for representing clients who have no friends or family. PD’s often take on emotional baggage that my clients’ families deal with. They also at times get clothes for their clients. I could go on.

@SoulofSowell @CraftonCornett I did 11 years as a prosecutor and there’s nothing dark about saving a persons life, no matter how big of a piece of crap he may be.

Cannie Oakley: Local Cryptid
Muting my previous post because a lot of you seem to think caring about public defense means that I somehow love rapists. It’s an incredibly thankless job, and also the last backstop between you having rights and losing them. And yeah, the death penalty shouldn’t exist.

if i had the ability to be a lawyer, i would do anything in my power to make sure the death penalty was brought to an end, so yes i would celebrate anyone getting life in prison over a death sentence. what is hard to understand here?

You don’t need to express disappointment or be secretly disappointed. You don’t cheer it publicly though You can praise a favorable verdict, but publicly gloating is different especially something as tasteless and graceless as that Also, “death penalty is immoral” Are you doing your job or are you doing activism?

If you were to search her case history for a man who sexually abused his girl friends daughter for years filming it before eventually murdering her, you would still have to narrow it down further because she keeps taking on those cases.

@theashleyray My bad, I forgot that helping a rapist murderer avoid consequences is totally fine as long as you get paid to do it.

@dyingscribe The death penalty is barbaric to put it mildly. Avoiding that for ANY client is absolutely a win to be celebrated.

I understand doing your job but celebrating this seems odd given what your client did
