It would seem to me that there are as many drawing "methods" and "techniques" as there are grains of sand on Earth, and just about all of them are totally arbitrary

No disrespect to the author or press, and the Daodejing is obviously of monumental importance. But how come this seems to be the only text people care about? I happen to know there are other interesting and important Chinese texts worth translating, too. Genuinely curious.
Yale University Press@yalepress

In this new translation of the TAO TE CHING, David Bentley Hart reveals the metaphysical, moral, and poetic depth of Laozi’s classic. Born of the Axial Age, it explores the tension between flesh and spirit, renewed here with striking clarity and relevance.

@FaXistic I hated induction as a kid because I could hear the super high frequencies, now that range of hearing is gone I think they're pretty cool

@JakabfiK I think the most problematic aspect of simplification was replacing certain characters in some words that instilled meaning to those characters that don't belong. Other than that I think it was mostly sound

It was not completely remade at all. The first round of simplification drew on a millenia of shorthands that were already in use and raised them to an official status. It was sensible and understandable. Not without its issues, but it was sound all around.

whn i learned “simplified” mandarin was developed by the communist party of china to promote literacy, i realizd how little every1 else cares abt public education. completely remade their 3000yo language to make it easier for poor people to read/write. a phenomenal accomplishment

@wellanyway2 @kisara1992 @xiaoshunli You can take a man out of an igloo, but you can't take the igloo out of a man's heart. They're trapped in their own minds, forever reserved and gloomy, never realizing the wonders a little whimsy can do for them. You would think being a homo would boost his openness but alas

@Honolulu_____ btw do children of Mainlanders who were conceived post-1966 *outside China* share the mark or nah? Like is the curse actively continuously imprinted upon new embryos but has no intergenerational trace, or did the episode of CR warp mainlanders through the generations?

The whole "Goth" aesthetic has lost it's allure, now it's just quirk chungus'. Goth girls are supposed to be scary, like bands you've never heard of, and be mysteriously good with all matter of animals, not autistic cartoon lovers who just happen to have spent $200 at hot topic

seeing people whose entire thing is being super edgy start to whine about "human decency" and "going too far" when someone gives them that same overly edgyness is always kinda funny to watch ngl
